A Drop Dead Diva Community
Lifetime (ended 2014)

IT'S DEAD, LIKE REALLY DEAD THIS TIME

... Lifetime has once again pulled the plug on Drop Dead Diva. The series—which was briefly canceled and then brought back to life after Season 4—will now end for good after Season 6. Like, this is definitely 100 percent totally the final end of the series. You know, unless Netflix decides to resurrect it, like it did with AMC's The Killing, for whatever reason. Somehow, I don't see that happening this time. Season 6 kicks off with a two-hour premiere on Sunday, March 23 at 9pm. [THR]

BUSINESS TIME

... Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey will premiere on Sunday, March 9 at 9pm, and Fox has just announced that it will be simulcast across 10 channels, including Fox, National Geographic, FX, FXX, FXM, Fox Sports 1, Fox Sports 2, Nat Geo Wild, Nat Geo Mundo, and FOX Life. It'll also air in over 181 countries on Fox International Channels and National Geographic Channels International. I don't know, I just feel like Fox isn't doing enough to promote this. [Fox via press release]

... The first annual Real Housewives Awards are coming to Bravo on Sunday, March 23. In related news, I'm currently looking to hire someone to come over to my house on Sunday, March 23 and repeatedly beat me over the head with a shoe. Voting is now open in 11 categories, including Most Memorable Outfit, Most Shocking Reunion Twist, Loveliest Locks, and Best Fight Locale. There's also a Lifetime Achievement Award, but that one's not taking viewer input and I don't even know what it entails. Like, does it go to the housewife whose life isn't the hottest mess? [Bravo via press release]

... Netflix has acquired the streaming rights to the last and as-yet-unaired season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The final 13 episodes, titled The Lost Missions, will debut March 7 alongside the previous five seasons. [Variety]

... I'm currently refraining from making a really bad joke about the Rock and cooking, but in the meantime, you should know that Dwayne Johnson is headed to HBO. The network has picked up Ballers—a series about current and former football players—which stars the former wrestler in his first major TV role. He's producing the series alongside Mark Wahlberg. [Deadline]

... My brain is still struggling to work out how Friday Night Lights can even exist in the same universe as Parenthood given how many actors have appeared on both series as different characters. But I will admit, my heart warmed a bit (do I need to get that checked?) when Amber called Landry Lance in this crossover webisode, Friday Night at the Luncheonette.

(The entire web series is available to watch right now at NBC).

CASTING NEWS

... Alec Baldwin is returning to NBC this spring to guest-star on an episode of Law & Order: SVU. Details regarding his role are scarce, but he'll appear in Mariska Hargitay's directorial debut. And her first note to him should probably be to keep his mouth shut and not say or do anything stupid. Boom! [E! Online]

... Former Weeds star Romany Malco has landed the lead role in Kevin Hart's semi- autobiographical comedy pilot at ABC, about a now-divorced couple that's trying to stay friends because of their children. Hart is expected to appear sporadically if the project gets ordered to series. [EW]

... Once Upon a Time has cast its Glinda the Good Witch, and while it didn't take my advice, the role appropriately went to someone whose first name basically forces you to think about happiness and all things good: Sunny Mabrey (not a made-up name), whose biggest TV credit to date is The Client List, has scored the part. She'll appear on the show this spring. [TV Line]

... John Leguizamo (Ice Age) will guest-star in an upcoming episode of The Good Wife as Peter's successor as Cook County State's Attorney. Word on the street is that he really likes fairness and stuff and isn't a complete d-bag. In barely related news: Did you guys know they're making Ice Age 5? [E! Online]

SAD NEWS

... Maybe I need to make Tim write news tomorrow, because three days in a row I've had to pass along sad news and I'm beginning to think this is somehow all my fault. Ralph Waite, whose career in film and television dates back to the 1950s, and who portrayed the patriarch of The Waltons for nine seasons, passed away today at the age of 86. Waite was a two-time Emmy nominee—he earned one nod for The Waltons and one for Roots—and was most recently seen as Gibbs' father on NCIS. [Deadline]

Hopefully Drop Dead Diva had a enough time to write a proper series goodbye.

NOOOOOOOOO! Not AGAIN! I was so happy when DDD came back and now cancelling again? It's such a cute show. Admittedly, I haven't been feeling the latest storylines but I was still hanging in there. Well, I hope they at least prepared a series finale this time. I was so upset at the cliffhanger ending from the first cancellation!

Go Netflix! I'll FINALLY get to watch all the Clone Wars eps!

So excited about the new Clone Wars episodes. I didn't think that we would get them so soon, or on Netflix of all places!

She should put it on her business card.

Right? It sounds way more impressive than "TV.com Editor".

She should embrace the power and title.

Ralph Waite also plays Booth's Grandfather on Bonesb.

Umm... I fail to see the problems of actors playing different parts doing crossovers.
Didn't Lucy Lawless do multiple roles on Hercules before they eventually made her Xena?
They also had loads of others in minor roles doing the same (like cupid\ceaser forgot the actor's name)

Had just started watching The Clone Wars too, but wasn't getting too onto it because of the bitter ending I knew I'd eventually get. Now I can rest easy that it will at least get a proper conclusion.

Good job Netflix, getting the final season of Clone Wars is something that a few of us actually care about, and you're way easier to get at than the Making of Star Wars ANH, ESB, and ROTJ "enhanced" e-book content.

Jeez Kaitlin, you are not having a good run. That's very sad news, he was such an engaging actor, hard to believe he's been on TV for 60 years and now he's gone.

Fun Fact Time aka Only Stuff Frost Knows: Sunny Mabrey is the ex-wife of Ethan Embry, who played Greg on OUAT.

including Fox, National Geographic, FX, FXX, FXM, Fox Sports 1, Fox Sports 2, Nat Geo Wild, Nat Geo Mundo, and FOX Life.

Oh come on, this needs to be on Fox News so badly.

I get Comcast HD, but we don't get FXX, FXM, or FOX Life. Not sure about the N.G. Mundo one. It seems all overkill and pointless for markets like mine.

Correction - We\ do get FXX, just not the others.

true story: I've seen at least one entire episode of drop dead diva.

I have no idea what Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey so thanks for all of that info.

I really wish OUaT would stop casting actresses who've undergone cosmetic surgery.

I'm not sure if you were actually asking for more information, but if you were you can read about the new incarnation of Cosmos here.

Carl Sagan's wonderful original was PBS' most watched series for many, many years.

thanks. wasn't actually familiar with the first one either.

Cory barker needs to update his HBO article for the Ballers news.

Ralph Waite was most recently playing a priest in Days of Our Lives, which is something he seems to have done before, as in Carnivale.

I'd rather see Ice Age 5 (and every sequal for the next 50 years) than anything Alec Baldwin is in.

I always enjoyed Clone Wars, so I am curious about this unaired season.

The show will be a turd. Oooh...that explains the smell.
(I suspect the joke Kaitlin refrained from doing was something along those lines.)
