  • The news department of a satellite TV company copes with the week's events - and also with a variety of preposterous personal problems.

    9.5
The great plus in this outrageous and often brilliant comedy series was that it included references to real news stories that had actually broken in the week of transmission - each segment was taped only hours before we saw it, with topical jokes added at the last minute. As the show grew more renowned, it also featured guest appearances from public figures, including Labour leader Neil Kinnock and London's controversial mayor, Ken Livingstone. The show brought up serious issues about bias in the media, and the suppression of news in the interest of political or business figures, but it did so whilst also being wildly funny. The quality only began to taper off slightly in the final season.moreless
