The final season of "Drop The Dead Donkey" was quite different from its predecessors. The seven episodes told one continuous story, the demise of GlobeLink News. Gone were most of the references to current affairs, in came more soap than usual. In this last episode the writers had to tie up all the loose ends. As every character deserved its own story, you don't get an ensemble piece but a collection of short cuts, some more effective than others. Both Joy and Helen were seriously underused this season. Damien has very little to do, but his nasty ending gives you a feeling of just rewards. Sally's story looks rather depressing, and then gets a nice twist. As Gus was never really a three-dimensional character, his downfall is just funny. Henry and Dave had an interesting story line, with an acceptable resolution.

And then there's George. In a show with no real central protagonist (if that isn't a tautology) he always stole the show, albeit in a sad way. His final choice here comes as a shock, or does it? George being George, a happy ending would have been unrealistic. And to prove that his character is totally believable, you can't help but feel sorry for him.moreless
