  • QUOTES (9)

    • DD: Unhand that innocent Earth brain, you Martian varlet!
Commander X-2: Huh? It's the Space Angel!
DD: I don't know how it is on Mars, but on Mother Earth, we respect -- NO! We revere the sanctity of the brain! We have so much esteem for that noble lobe, that we have special institutions to nurture them. We call these institutions schools. We make our children go to them, and they are taught by teachers. Teachers, whom we reward with tearful accolades, and low-paying salaries. And I shall do no disrespect to that great system...
Commander X-2: (hands Dodgers his brain) Here, take it, take it!
DD: I hadn't quite finished my speech.
Commander X-2: (hands Dodgers a chair) Take this, too! Take it all! Just get outta my ship! (laughs crazily)

    • DD: You know, I don't think that he's a robot.
Cadet: H-h-he may not be, but I am! (The Cadet turns into a robot)
DD: Just when you think ya know a guy!

    • Miss Betsy: Tell me, Sheriff, what's your story?
      Dodgers: Hit it, boys!
(Cartoon and robot versions of the western singer group, the Riders in the Sky, playing a violin, accordion, guitar, and double bass, apparently called Woody, Joey, Doug, and Too Slim, respectively, start singing on the saloon stage.)
Riders: Dodgers, Duck Dodgers; known throughout the starry space frontier. Dodgers, brave Duck Dodgers; a hero known to all both far and near.
Too Slim: One time Canasta was a gunnin' for Duck Dodgers, with his laser pistol blasting up the town.
(Canasta blasts through a wooden sign and blasts a kid's ice cream cone in his face.)
Too Slim: Dodgers took a mirror and deflected back the blast so unexpected that Canasta got all sizzled, crisp and brown.
Canasta: Now that's just downright painful!
      (Back on the saloon stage…)
Riders: Dodgers, Duck Dodgers; he always kept the bad guys on the run. Dodgers, brave Duck Dodgers; those robots never pack a loaded gun.
(A robot pulls the trigger on a gun, and a scroll comes out that shows a full/empty gauge with the arrow pointing to "E;" Dodgers yawns)
Woody: In an attempt to lure Duck Dodgers to his ruin, Canasta tied his honey to the tracks.
(Canasta ties Miss Betsy to the tracks.)
Woody: But Dodgers smashed that desperado…
      Joey:…like a soggy avocado…
      (A train hits Canasta)
Woody:…chewed him up like corn tortilla snacks.
(Dodgers is inside the train's engine, eating tortilla chips with guacamole)
      Dodgers: Surprisingly refreshing!
(The Riders are now on the train's caboose)
Riders: Dodgers, Duck Dodgers; to outlaws he brought misery and grief. Dodgers, brave Duck Dodgers; aided by his comedy relief.
(We see Cadet on a handcar next to the train)
Dodgers(to Cadet): Get your own song!
Doug: Things were lookin' bad that day for Dodgers, 'cause Canasta had him cornered in the pass. So Duck let out a bellow…
      (Dodgers yells)
      Doug:…and brought robot buffalo…
(The Riders are shown riding on a group of robot buffalo)
      Doug:…stampeding in on old Canasta's—Yodel-ay-ee-hee…
(We see Dodgers riding gallantly on the leading buffalo)
Riders: Dodgers, Duck Dodgers; danger he never did avoid. Dodgers, cowardly Duck Dodgers…
      Dodgers: Hey!
Riders:…'cause he knows he's only fightin' an android.
      Dodgers: Just yodel.
      Doug: Yodel-ay-ee-yodel-ay-ee-yodel-ay-ee-hee…
      Too Slim and Woody: Yodel-ay-ee-yodel-ay-ee-yodel-ay-ee-hee…
      All Riders: Yodel-ay-ee-yodel-ay-ee-yodel-ay-ee-hee-ee.
(The crowd applauds, the Riders bow, and they return to vacancy.)
Miss Betsy: Well, I reckon that answers my question.

    • DD: Danger is my middle name!
Cadet: I thought your middle name was Edgar.
      DD: I was speaking metaphorically!

    • DD: Didn't I tell you to beat it, Shorty?
      Canasta: Shorty? I'm not short!!
(DD points up, Canasta looks up and sees a cart full of items falling onto him)
Canasta: Oh ... I get it.
      (Cart falls on him)

    • Centurion: Subdue the duck in the great hat!

    • (Finishes shooting bad guy robots but mistakenly hits civilian robot carrying groceries; who flies through store window)
DD: Oh! I'm sorry, I thought that baguette was loaded.

    • DD: (mumbling whilst having his brain removed) .. Mmm .. no Alfalfa .. I'm taking Darla to the ballet!

    • I.Q. Hi: Hey! That's a really cool hat! Where did you get it?
DD: I have absolutely no idea!

  • NOTES (7)

    • Riders in the Sky are billed as "Special Guest Stars."

    • "The Wrath of Canasta" is "Chapter: 13.13"; "They Stole Dodgers' Brain" is "Chapter: 66.78".

    • This episode features a reference to the rock band Rush. Duck uses Attack Pattern "YYZ". "YYZ" being the name of a famous song by the band. There are Rush references in other episodes as well.

    • The entire premise of "The Wrath of Canasta" parodies both the 1973 film, Westworld and the aforementioned title parodies Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.

    • Dodgers' middle name is Edgar.

    • The episode references "Drip Along Daffy," which was directed by Chuck Jones. Nasty Canasta also appears in the Looney Tunes feature Looney Tunes: Back in Action.

    • Nasty Canasta was the villain in an old Looney Tunes short starring Daffy and Porky, which had a wild west theme; Dodgers and Cadet (that is, the robot Cadet) appear dressed just as Daffy and Porky did in that cartoon.

    • n/a: Jackie Gleason
The bartender character is a caricature of Jackie Gleason in his role as Joe the Bartender.

    • n/a: Star Trek
The episode is similar to the Star Trek episode, "Spock's Brain," where Spock's brain is removed by an alien race and has a weird mechanical "hat" attached to it by Dr. McCoy in order to move it around.
