Where did the Golden Goose come from, anyway?

I was watching the two-part "Golden Goose" story and I was wondering where the cursed thing came from in the first place.

Maybe some well-meaning but greedy magican created it to make gold and it did NOT work out the way he planned?

maybe that's the "truth' behide the legend of King Midas? (Thanks from the spelling impaired, here.)

Come to think of it, the legend of King Midas does say he got rid of the curse by washing it off in water. (The legend says he washed it off in a river...)

    Story material here?

You mean, King Midas (everything he touched turned to gold).

The Golden Goose was a pretty good episode. The only downside is that it's the last episode of the series.
