Ok I've only seen the first few eps of the first season so far because it's only just started to be shown in repeats on ITV but I think Kowalski is brilliant! His raport (I think I've spelt that wrong) with Fraser is hilarious.

I've read lots of people dissing the first Kowalski season but I think it's compelling viewing. Gross did an amazing job considering how he was thrown in at the deep end.

Well that's my opinion. What do you think of Due South (1997) and, in particular, Kowalski?

Kowalski is good, but he gets much better in the second half of the third season or second season of the second due south, whatever you want to call it.

I've watched all the Kowalski Eps now and I definately think Kowalski is they greatest! I totally love him! Lol.

ITV started showing the Vecchio eps from the beginning again and, even though I think they're great, I missed Kowalski. It was like I was expecting him to just come around the corner at any minute.

i'm just rewatching all of season 1 and 2 and have rediscovered that vecchio actually was great as well. let's say, they're almost equally good but maybe the chemistry between fraser and vecchio was better than the one between fraser and kowalski (while kowalski on the other hand looks better ... ).

Yeah the chemistry is what made Vecchio better. Kowalski is still good, just not as good as Vecchio.

being almost through with watching all four seasons i'm still undecided
between vecchio and kowalski (i know i've been changing my mind quite a
few times along the way ).

    i think callum keith rennie
    and david marciano both are
excellent actors and i don't think that kowalski's interaction with
fraser was worse than vecchio's it was merely different, edgier, less
harmonic but by that very interesting and - as their relationship
    evolved
    - sometimes very touching (all the way up to the show's finale: kowalski's sorrow and his feeling of being lost when he believes that
fraser is going to be teaming up with ray vecchio again). i enjoyed
seing both of them and most of all i liked them together in "call of
the wild" it would have been interesting to have a fifth season with
both rays trying to find their way around fraser and kowalski trying to find
his place in life. and to give one more special credit to callum keith
rennie: it must have been incredibly difficult to replace david
marciano, live up to the expectations the first two seasons left us with
and still do such a great and believable job.

Yeah it must have been difficult comign in and filling his shoes, but I still like the old Ray better. Him and Fraser did have a better chemistry. Not that the other one was any where near bad, jsut not as good.

Heh. I suppose the fact CKR is my favourite actor sorta makes my opinion bias, ka?
Never really cared for seasons 1-2 of Due South. Leaped on the return, with news of a new guy. So glad I tuned in.
CKR is one of those actors that has no plans to leave Canada, for work. Good boy. ^^

I can't actually say anything on the Kowalski vs. Vecchio thing because the only Vecchio eps I've seen are the pilot, Burning Down the House, and Call of the Wild, but as interesting as Vecchio has been the couple of times I've seen him, I'm mostly a Kowalski fan. Although, I am kind of biased being a CKR fan.

Good old Ray Vecchio for sure!! I just did not like the whole golden bullet thing in the last episode... I never really liked the new Ray anyway...

Due South happens to be one of my favorite shows. I watch the series all the time. At first, it took me a while to get used to Kowalski since he is no Vecchio. I love them both. They are two totally different people which I think that's what helped make the show along with the awesome Paul Gross as the nicest, caring, polite mountie. I don't know how to explain it, but I love both Ray's for different reasons, and they both work great with Fraser, personally and professionally.
