  • It's a wonderful pilot and TV film but ...

    9.5
... the stunts are horrible compared with nowadays standards ... you can see that the stuntmen look so different from the original cast but besides that it's brilliant!!

I loved the interaction between Ray and Benton ... truely great acting all through the film and it was well deserved that a whole series was launched after the success of this tv film. Another nice feature of the film is that it sets the stage for the whole coming series. The characters of Benton Fraser and Ray are well introduced and believeable - you can easily related to them. The difference between Canada and Chicago is also a great treat for the audience ... I love the Canadian landscape and also the Canadian style. Thank you for this great start into the series ... I will come back for more.

PS. I've only seen the pilot film today and haven't seen the whole series but I'm really looking forward to it.moreless
  • A Canadian Mountie asks for transfer to Chicago in hopes to find his father's killer.

    8.3
Starting off a little slow, the pilot episode eventually starts to become interesting about a half hour into the story. Nothing really happens in the beginning, but once Fraser goes to Chicago, the story really picks up and becomes really interesting. Paul Gross does an excellent job as Benton Fraser, but the real star of the series is Fraser's pet wolf, who happens to be deaf but can understand English. David Marciano also makes an interesting sidekick as Ray. Overall, this is a classic sereis that my family has enjoyed since it first debuted. It is a good episode, but the beginning is a little slow.moreless

    • Ray Vecchio (about Diefenbaker); He reads lips?
Benton Fraser: I've never been sure. If so, he's self-taught.

    • Gerard: What was the biggest city you ever worked in?
      Benton Fraser: Moosejaw.
Gerard: Yeah, and you were transferred out after five weeks because you couldn't adapt to such an urban life style. You're like your father. Out there in no man's land, there isn't a better cop in the world. But in Chicago, they'd eat you alive in a minute. Sorry.
