AIRED:
Duel returns for a second season with new rules and new contestants. Contestants now play for a maximum prize of $500,000 that can only be won by successfully defeating five opponents. They can also still win money in individual matches. Throughout the night, contestants face off in tense duels testing their knowledge of everything from an opera about a TV talk show host to the lingual derivation of the name of a popular game. Contestants feel out the new format, judging whether to hang on to money already won or wager for higher stakes.moreless

    • TRIVIA (1)

      • The format of the program has been changed for its second season. Episodes now run once a week, with contestants playing for up to $50,000 in individual matches. Contestants may win an additional prize of $500,000 by winning five duels. Contestants, however, must risk their winnings each time they choose to accept another duel. Chips wagered are no longer worth any money, instead, a money ladder is used that increases the longer a duel continues. At the end, the winner of the duel is given an opportunity to double their money on a single question, but does not lose the money if they answer this question incorrectly.

    • QUOTES (3)

      • Mike: Brooke, can I have a word with you?
        Brooke: Yeah.
Mike: Did you really think it's possible the derivation of "Lincoln Logs" was from a Swahili word? (loud laughter from audience)
Brooke: No. But I didn't want to take a chance on the first one.

      • Greg: Bomp. Bomp bomp bomp.
Mary: A couple dances of my own over here.
Mike: (trying to explain the answer to a question in more detail) The opera--
Greg: Bring it on, Mary. Bring on the dancing. Come on, I want it.

      • Mike: I've got high stakes drama, where players are going to have to risk big to win big. I've got two beautiful chip girls -- Erin and Anastacia -- and they are going to do everything they can to make me look good.
