Morgan Brittany met her husband, Jack Gill while working on this episode.
Luke: Excuse us, y'all. We got a sheriff to shake.
Mary Lou: What kind of trouble are Bo and Luke in, anyway?
Daisy: Don't ask.
Cooter: It just depends on what day of the week it is.
Cletus uses the phrase "buzzards on a buzzsaw" for the first time in this episode. The phrase replaced Enos's catchphrase "possum on a gum bush."
The storyline in this episode appears to be borrowed from an episode of Andy Griffith entitled The Haunted House in which crooks use a purportedly haunted house as their base of operations.
Morgan Brittany would soon join the cast of another CBS show, Dallas, playing Katherine Wentworth. Dallas followed Dukes of Hazzard on Friday nights for many years.
Andrew Robinson's most famous role is that of the psychotic killer in Dirty Harry. He would return in The Treasure of Soggy Marsh.
The title of this episode is taken from The Amityville Horror, popular book which was made into a movie during the 1970's starring James Brolin, Margot Kidder, and Rod Steiger.
