How were Bo and Luke able to tour with the NASCAR series when their probation prohibited them from leaving Hazzard County? Plus, in later episodes it's mentioned that they are still on probation. Plus in the flashback episode Happy Birthday, General Lee it's mentioned that they were on probation even then--eight years prior. That must have been a stiff term and it's yet another inconsistency that's never fully explained.
In the opening credits when it shows James Best as Rosco Coltrane it is changed with the new credits and it says Rosco P. Coltrane but when Tom Wopat and John Schneider came back it was changed back to just Rosco Coltrane.
Bo and Luke leaving Hazzard County is a result of Tom Wopat and John Schneider leaving because they claimed that Warner Bros. cheated them out of their rights and royalties. Their replacements, Byron Cherry and Christopher Mayer were chosen out of over 2000 actors who auditioned for the part of Coy and Vance. Sonny Shroyer returned when his show, Enos, failed after 18 episodes.
Bo and Luke were said to have gone to race professionally on the NASCAR circuit. The bulk of the scripts were simply adapted from using Bo and Luke to Coy and Vance. The two new Duke 'clones' proved unpopular with many legions of fans, and ratings took a severe dip as a result.
