Adam: There are vapors in the paint, now in the paneling, that, breathed over time, disorient the mind, the thinking processes. In this case... Jeff's case... they're working to keep him from being a stumbling block to both of us. Our plans that we've talked about endlessly together. And worked on so hard together.
Alexis: My God. You're killing him.
Adam: No, mother, I'm not killing him. There's no danger of that.
Alexis: You're killing him!
Adam: Now, mother, do I look like a murderer to you?
Alexis: Oh, I don't know what you are sometimes.
Adam: Well, thank you for that.
(Jeff finds Fallon in Mark's hotel room)
Jeff: You heard about our son?
Fallon: Yes, Jeff, I checked with Kirby when we landed at the airport. He's just fine.
Jeff: And just to make double sure, you rushed right back to be with him, right?
Fallon: I'm on my way.
Jeff: Yeah, but you had to stop by here first. Our son is burning up with a fever...
Fallon: Jeff, it was just...
Jeff: Our son is burning up with a fever, but you had to fly off for lunch with a couple customers and then stop by your lover's room.
Fallon: My what?!
Jeff: Isn't that what this is? The guy you spend half your time with? The tennis bum who kisses you in swimming pools in front of a couple hundred people.
Fallon: Mark works for me.
Jeff: I'll be he does.
Alexis: Mark, if you're talking about an arrangement more permanent than the one we have, I'm afraid that that's impossible.
Mark: Why? Because I'm broke.
Alexis: Oh, no. No, it has nothing to do with money. It's just that...
Mark: What?
Alexis: Well, I can only handle one passion at a time.
Mark: You're in love but not with me. There's that infamous other man.
Alexis: Yes, there's another man. But it isn't love that I feel for him. It's hate. You see, Mark, hate is as strong a passion as love. And right now I have to make a choice and dedicate that passion elsewhere. So... if your motives are anything more than love in the afternoon, I think you better take this off. (Alexis points to a broach Mark has pinned on her)
(Mark kisses Alexis)
Mark: Do I open the champagne here or upstairs?
Alexis: Upstairs.
(Mark and Alexis kiss again)
Alexis: That is Steven's child and I will not stand by and see Krystle becomes its mother. I will fight you, Blake. I will take you to court and I will fight you.
Blake: You will, huh?
Alexis: Yes.
Blake: You with your delicious maternal history?
Alexis: You made me abandon Steven and Fallon.
Blake: You left, Alexis. You left and you never contacted them. Not until the trial 16 years later. Remember that? On second thought, don't bother. I'll remind the court myself.
Alexis: You forced me to stay away from them. You blackmailed me into it.
Blake: Blackmail, all right. If that's what you want to call it. But I had good reasons. Damned good reasons.
Alexis: You think you're holding all the cards now, don't you?
Blake: I hope so.
Alexis: You know something? You are pathetic. It's pitiful to see you like this. A man who wants to turn his own grandchild into his son. A whole... a whole pathetic and.. and pitiful attempt to regain your second youth.
Blake: I won't even bother wasting my breath trying to explain this.
Alexis: Well, do explain it. Will you explain it to me?
Blake: All right, I will. Steven grew up with a mother who was no better than a tramp. His son is going to grow up with a decent woman as his mother. It's just as simple as that. Now, get out of here!
Fallon: I like it.
Mark: What?
Fallon: Oh, I've been admiring your watch ever since that day your phone was off the hook.
Mark: Yeah, it's pretty nice, isn't it?
Fallon: Yeah. I guess you're going to buy her something pretty nice in return. That mysterious lady you've been so occupied with.
Mark: Maybe you're wrong. You see, pretty soon I'm going to be single again. And from what I hear, Fallon, you're, uh, headed in the same direction. What would you say if I told you that I really wanted to buy something for you?
Fallon: I'd say the sentiment is sweet but...
Mark: But what?
Fallon: It'd be a real waste. I already have more jewelry than I could ever wear.
German episode title: "Dem Wahnsinn nahe", meaning "Close to Madness".
