The most obvious reason for this episode being one of the fans' favorite eps of the entire series is the classic catfight between Krystle and Alexis in the lily pond. It was the ultimate throwdown, with the two Dynasty divas thrashing about in the water, knocking each other down and losing all sense of decorum in the process. But while the fight itself was the ultimate in camp, the events that came before and after it were very dramatic and have been overshadowed by the campy event. To begin with, Krystle was feeling shut out of Blake's life, for weeks now. Her attempts to heal the family met with a cold shoulder from Blake, who told her to stay out it and made her feel like an outsider in her own home. On top of that, Steven moved Danny out of the mansion, taking away the child she almost adopted, which broke Krystle's heart. Krystle was raw. So what would set off this powderkeg and finally cause her to explode in anger? Enter Alexis.

Fallon disowned Alexis for setting up a seduction scene with Fallon's new lover, Mark. Rather than own up to her own jealousy and insecurity (because her lover chose her own daughter over her) or the reason Fallon turned on her (because Fallon found her in Mark's bed), Alexis chose to quickly and conveniently lay blame on Krystle, whom Fallon had gotten closer to. In typical Alexis fashion, she reacted by taunting Krystle, who was already traumatized. At her breaking point, Krystle snapped and let Alexis have it. But the real drama came afterwards. Blake berated Krystle - in front of Alexis noless, and that led Krystle to move out of the mansion. To Krystle, this was unforgivable. She'd had it with the Carringtons. Alexis cost her her unborn child. And Blake was treating her as if she wasn't part of the family. Well, as Krystle told him, they're weren't really married so she didn't have to stay and put up with his crap. This was one episode in which Linda Evans truly shined and wasn't just mere window dressing for Blake. The pain and emotions Krystle were going through rang true in Linda's facial expressions.

The other major developments were the set up for the cliffhanger finale in the next ep with Alexis managing to piss off everybody to the point that they'd want to kill her, which McVane tried to do in this ep (and someone else would try to finish in the finale in the next ep). Very good foreshadowing.

All around a series classic. One of the best episodes of the entire series.moreless

  • QUOTES (5)

    • (Blake rescues Alexis from almost being strangled to death by Neal McVane)
      Blake: Are you all right?
Alexis: Oh. God. He was trying to kill me. Oh, Blake. Thank you for saving me.
Blake: Well, the next time, there may not be anybody around to do it.
      Alexis: The next time?
Blake: If you go on ruining other people's lives, I wouldn't give a dime for your chances of holding on to your own.

    • Blake: What are you doing?
Krystle: I'm leaving. I'm checking into La Mirage.
Blake: Are you going to tell me what this is all about?
Krystle: You've done an unforgivable thing, Blake. You've not only humiliated me, but you've done it in front of her. The woman who cost us our child.
Blake: There are times when husbands and wives...
Krystle: Husband? Well, Alexis was right about one thing. She reminded me that I'm not legally married to you. And I'm not sure I want to be. Because what am I in your life? Maybe if I hadn't lost the baby, maybe if I could still have one, we'd be closer. But as it is, I was closer to you, closer to the core of your life, when I was your secretary. And don't bother calling one of the servants. I haven't forgotten how to carry my own bags.

    • (Blake sees Krystle and Alexis fighting in the lily pond)
Blake: What the devil is going on here?! Will somebody tell me? Are you going to answer me, Krystle? Are you going to answer me?! Well, all right, I'll tell you something. I will not have this. No matter what the provocation is, I will not have my wife acting this way. A common brawl in a lily pond with her. Like a couple of female mud wrestlers. I won't stand for it, do you understand?

    • Krystle: What are you doing here, Alexis?
Alexis: I came to see Fallon. I wanted to talk to her. But you've seen to that, haven't you?
Krystle: What are you talking about?
Alexis: I'm talking about a woman who has done everything in her power to alienate my daughter from me. Namely you.
Krystle: Alienate? That's a word they invented for you, Alexis. You've never stopped trying to destroy my marriage. And you've gotten your son and his father barely speaking to one another.
Alexis: Is that really of so much concern to you, Mrs. Jennnings? You still are, you know.
Krystle: Get out of here, Alexis.
Alexis: Get off your property? But it really isn't your property, is it, Mrs. Jennings?
      Krystle: Get out!
Alexis: I know what's wrong with you. The empty-armed Madonna. Mourning the baby that she couldn't have and the baby that she almost got to adopt. Gone now. That is it, isn't it?
      Krystle: You miserable bitch!
(Krystle pushes Alexis into the lily pond)

    • Adam: I'm concerned about you, Mother.
Alexis: One delicious croissant? Oh, don't worry, darling, I'll work it off, I always do.
      Adam: Not pastries. McVane.
Alexis: McVane is dead, Adam. You just talked with a political ghost.
Adam: So much the worse. He's obviously figured out who the source of the story is. I wish you'd let me in on your plan.
      Alexis: Why?
Adam: I would have discouraged you from doing something so easy to detect.
Alexis: I suppose you would have recommended secrecy, as in the case of your trying to poison Jeff?
Adam: Mother, I took great pains in front to protect myself and you. Don't turn your back. You might find McVane's knife in it.
