Well, that certainly was… interesting. The CW's experiment with outsourcing a chunk of its primetime lineup has officially come to an end. In an unusual move, Media Rights Capital (charming name) bought Sunday nights from The CW and stocked it with its own independently produced programs this fall. Some (well, me) thought the idea was crazy and wouldn't work. Well, guess what?
The people have spoken, and they love House, Heroes, and American Idol. The 35th Annual People's Choice Awards has revealed its lengthy list of nominees, and it's full of small-screen favorites.
Independent television studio Media Rights Capital (MRC) is new to this whole TV thing, so please excuse them if they didn't quite get it right the first time, don't know things work around the offices, or can't find the fresh coffee filters. The company bought a chunk of time on The CW's schedule and put its own programming on Sunday nights, and I think it's safe to say that they've learned a few things from the whole experience.
Sure, The CW as a whole is like the major networks' little brother, always lagging behind or trying to keep up with the cool kids, but Sunday night on The CW is barely on the radar. Now, Sunday nights won't be on the radar at all.
