Eat-Man '98

Show Summary

Meet Bolt Crank. Bolt Crank is a mercenary, but he's no ordinary man. He's gifted with the ability to eat metal objects and then later, when the need arises, he can produce these items from his right hand. Given Bolt's line of work, this comes in very handy. Only episodes 1 and 2 were ever dubbed in English. The rest of the series is only available in it's original Japanese format. The region 1 DVD set contains episodes 1 and 2 in English/Japanese, and all episodes from 3 up in Japanese only. Eat-Man '98 is infact a sequel of Eat-Man, which ran one year before '98. The first, Eat-Man (1997), is widely criticised because of its low budget (meaning less than brilliant animation at times, and occasionally dull plots with little or no action) and the fact that the character designs do not in any way resemble the style of Yoshitomi's manga. The second series, Eat-Man '98 (1998), had the benefit of a much higher budget (due to the success of the first series despite its shortcomings) and also features hands-on input from Akihito Yoshitomi (such as character designs and storyboarding). Eat-Man '98 also differs from the first series in that some episodes adapt actual stories from the manga. This was not attempted in the 1997 show.moreless
