  • It's like heaven in one sitting!

I don't know about you, but I felt that "Cool Hand Ed" was a bit short. Oh well, I'm sure it's just my subconscious telling me something. I give "Cool Hand Ed" 8.5/10. After all, I'd be lying if I said it was the best episode ever. Unfortunately, I felt that the episode had just a body, no introduction, and a small conclusion. The episode starts out how Eddy wants to break out and gives a plan to break out. Then, for mainly the episode, it showed everyone collecting items to make the aircraft and showed it's results. In my opinion, it lacked the basis of what any other episode would be.

But that doesn't mean that the episode was all bad. The inside of Ed's brain was quite humorous and quite creative. Normally, when I see an episode like this, I usually see a large amount of punishment and scolding. The fact that the end of the episode ends before the punishment, the lack of scolding is a very good thing. We know that they will have a punishment, but we don't see Double-D suffering the most of it like he always does, even when he had the smallest role.moreless
  • Nothing happened...........boring but some parts were funny, I guess.

This episode Cool Hand Ed is just nothing happened in there but some parts did and its funny. Eddy were trying to escape at the Peach creek Junior High School, and he told Double-D and Ed what's his plan. But Jonny 2x4 and Plank heard what they were talking about. Also Plank and Johnny 2x4 want to escape too but it's not really funny and some of it was just boring. I like the part when Double-D, Eddy, Ed, Johnny 2x4, and Plank were at the top building of the school while Naz was checking Double-D at the library and she wants to sign for the paper thing that she was holding. That's the time I only laughed and it was funny. Other parts were not funny, nothing happened or boring. Not really a good episode of the Eds so I rated it 6.8(fair).moreless
  • Great filler episode but some parts were boring.

I didn't really liked this episode and I agree on Beaker 2000's review it's kind of boring but it's funny not like what he has written. Eddy wants to escape from the school but in the first time he said to Ed and Double-D, they didn't agree but when Jonny 2x4 and Plank heard what they were talking about, Jonny 2x4, Plank, Ed, and Double- D agree with it. That part was kind of funny but when at near the end of the episode they didn't got home early and get escape from the school. That was kind of boring and not funny.

I liked the part when the Eds, Jonny 2x4 and, Plank were seeing and kind of spying on the other kids of what they were doing at lunch so nobody could see how they got escaped. Also the one when Nazz went to the school library and saw Double-D reading and she wanted Double-D to make sign to her paper thing . Nazz saw that it's not really Double-D. That's were the funny parts to me. I guess it's kind of great filler episode because it's funny and some parts were boring.moreless
  • The Eds, as well as Johnny and Plank, plays hooky, while Ed outstages Edd.

"Cool Hand Ed / Too Smart For His Own Ed" is yet another great addition in the fifth season of Ed, Edd n' Eddy, and once again, it has impress me.

In Cool Hand Ed, Eddy has enough of school, and schemes a plan to get out of school before the end of the day. With Edd's brain, he, his pals, as well as Johnny 2x4 and Plank, makes their move as quietly as they can.

In Too Smart For His Own Ed, Edd is outstaged by the unlikely dimwitted Ed, who remarkably, shows a little bit of intelligence. And when Eddy takes advantage of this newfound side of Ed's, it spells disaster and doom for him.

    Overall, a 9.2 out of 10.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (4)

    • There is no way the plane the Eds made could go back and crash.

    • When Nazz asks Edd about the petition she gets a bit shy and plays with her hair, this might imply that she does like him or has a secret crush on him.

Reply: This may be a reason as to why she smiled when she danced it Edd in "May I have this Ed."

    • Response to above goof: remember this is junior high. Sarah and Jimmy are probably in a younger class, that's why they have a different lunch hour.
(Response: But later in "This Won't Hurt an Ed", we can see them eating with Kevin, Rolf etc.)

    • Why were Sarah and Jimmy at Peach Creek Junior High? They are not old enough to go.

  • QUOTES (4)

    • Ed: ...Sarah will tell Mom, Mom will tell Dad, and Dad will just sit there and watch TV!

    • (The plane is falling)
      Eddy: Double D!
Edd: The plane is losing altitude. We are carrying too much weight.
      (Everyone stares at Jonny)
      Jonny: What?
Eddy: Sorry Jonny no oversized noodles.Airline policy!
      (Ejects Jonny out of plane)
      Jonny: Hey you!

    • Ed: A cheeseburger by any other name would be as cheesy.

    • Ed: If the school finds out, then they'll tell Sarah, and she'll tell Mom, and Mom will tell Dad, and Dad will just sit there watching TV!
Eddy: Think about it, Ed. If we pull this off, it'll be monster movies all day, baby. (Ed takes a minute to process this.)
Ed: (grabs Double-D and starts shaking him) IT'S TOTALLY WORTH IT, DOUBLE-D!

  • NOTES (8)

    • Again, Nazz shows that she is a "dumb blonde" when talking to the fake Edd--after the fake Edd's head falls off and she picks it up and looks at it, she asks, "...Are you okay?"

    • Look hard: The name of the author for How To Escape is named Al B. Gone. A short word for I'll be gone.

    • Look hard: The name of the books Eddy is hiding behind are called How To Escape, Flyfishing 101, Invisibility and Bulldogs.

    • Look hard: In the scene where Eddy is hiding next to a book self, there is a book called Bulldogs. This is a reference to that producer Dan Sioui has a bulldog named Margot.

    • This is the second time Ed has made a phrase that includes "Sarah telling his mother, who would tell his Dad who would not do anything about the situation". The first time was in For Your Ed Only.

    • First episode to air for the year 2006.

    • The magazine Plank was using said "Protect Our Forest " where it's not only what the resamblement of his wood body but it was known to be one of the commercials during the 2004's Presidential Running.

    • Title Pun: Cool Hand Luke.

    • Title: Cool Hand Ed
The title of this episode is a parody of the movie Cool Hand Luke.

    • Movie: Edd created a decoy of himself to place in the library so people won't know that he is gone. Nazz then messed with the decoy and the head fell off. This could be an allusion to the 1979 film Escape From Alcatraz where near the end of the film, a security guard discovers that three of the inmates had escaped after the head of one of their decoys fell off the bed.

    • Edd: Synchronize your watches, gentlemen!

This is an allusion to the 90's comedy show Parker Lewis Can't Lose in which the main character Parker would say the same thing in almost every episode when they were up to something.

    • Ed: A cheeseburger by any other name would be just as cheesy.

Reference to William Shakespeare's famous quote, "A rose by any other name would smell as sweet".

    • Ed: If the school finds out, they'll tell Sarah, and she'll tell Mom, and Mom will tell Dad and he'll just sit in front of the T.V.!

This line is a competitive version of what Ed said in For Your Ed Only, when Eddy stole Sarah's diary. In that show he says, "If Sarah finds out, she'll tell Mom and Mom will tell Dad and he'll say, 'Not now, I just got home from work!'"
