The Retainer
AIRED:

This episode really showed how the show could take a not so serious topic, and create an entertaining expirience. That is waht I love about this short lived show, is that even an episode about dogs plotting to take over the world, isn't too cheesy to be fun. A lot of the jokes in this episode are more for kids than anyone else, but an adult could still enjoy this one. When the dogs start shouting "Bite the hand that feeds us" an adult might laugh, but a child might be frightened. It just shows how much versatility this program has, and how everyone, young and old can enjoy it.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • Even though the poodle in this episode has a French accent, the breed's country of origin is more likely Germany. It's French origin is a popular mis-conception.

    • The city planners have so much power that the borders of the city form a triangle with perfectly straight lines? Then again, it is the center of weirdness for the whole planet, so maybe so.

  • QUOTES (4)

    • Dogs: (All chanting) Bite the hand that feeds us! Bite the hand that feeds us! Bite the hand that feeds us!

    • Marshall: (In regards to the retainer) Even if I tell my parents, they won't believe me. They'll just think I'm homesick, or worse yet crazy. You see, hideous pain and the fact that I'll look goofy don't have anything to do with why I don't want a retainer. It's dogs I'm worried about. It all started with a guy named Steve Konkolewski. Steve had the biggest teeth in the 7th grade. I mean we're talking major surfboards.

    • Poodle: As soon as we solve the mystery of the door knob, Eerie is ours!

    • Marshall: (During his opening inner monologue) Eerie, Indiana. Day 45. I knew my home town was going to be different from where I grew up in New Jersey, but this is ridiculous. Nobody believes me, but Eerie is the center of weirdness for the entire planet. Item: a guy that looks suspiciously like Elvis lives on my paper route.
Elvis: Thank you little paper boy.
Marshall: Item: Bigfoot eats out of my trash. Item: a bizarre housewife cult in town has been sealing up their kids in giant rubber kitchenware so that they don't age. And now, just when I thought things couldn't get any worse...I discovered that in Eerie even man's best friend is up to no good. When I try to tell this to my family, they just think I'm weird. Better weird than dead.

  • NOTES (0)

  • ALLUSIONS (2)

    • Dr. Eukanuba: Eukanuba is a brand of dog food.

    • The Bermuda Triangle: The city lines of Eerie form a triangle similar to the shape of the Bermuda Triangle.

The Bermuda Triangle is a debunked theory that an area in the mid-Atlantic Ocean is more prone to aircraft disappearances than is normal.
