I am a Mathematics teacher and I know that a lot of people don't like that subject but I always did. Why? Because it is logical. When there is a problem you apply a formula to it and you solve it. Even if there is no exact solution you can still get close, narrow it down. It is safe. You know what the outcome will possibly be.

Harlan and Sherlock are both people who like things that are logical out of different reasons.

Harlan has problems interpreting social clues as he himself said. He is a brilliant mind but he has difficulties in understanding people's behaviour. Sherlock on the other hand has very fine antennae and often sees more than he wants to. Together with the exclusively negative experience in adolescence this makes it difficult for him to enter any relationship.
So both tend to rely on things that are logical.

That's where classical physics and quantum mechanics come into play.

Classical physics base on determinism. This means that when you have sufficient knowledge about the laws of nature and their parameters you can exactly predict how a physical system will react under certain circumstances.

Quantum Mechanics follow a different principle. According to their laws you can only make statements about probability.

Life would be much easier if it followed the laws of classical physics.
Unfortunately it is more like Heisenberg's uncertainty principle which, using place and impulse as an example, states that

1. It is not possible to prepare a quantum state in which you can define place and impulse with infinite accuracy.

2. It is generally impossible to measure place and impulse of a particle at the same time with infinite accuracy.

3. The measuring of the impulse of a particle is inevitably connected with a disturbance of its place and vice versa.

These statements can be used for couples of other physical units and they can also be applied to relationships.

1. It is not possible to prepare a relationship in a way that it guarantees you eternal happiness because you never know exactly what makes a romantic partnership successful. Also what works with one relationship doesn't mean that it works with all relationships.

2. It is impossible to predict the future of a relationship by analysing its current state nor is it possible to predict the success of a relationship by comparing it to one you had before.
As Joan Watson said "someone else is always someone else"

3. The comparison of a potential love interest to a former partner you regard as ideal is inevitably connected with staying alone and not exploring new perspectives.

Science would not make any progress if scientists wouldn't make experiments to prove or refute theories.

The same is true for relationships. You will never know if a romantic relationship works if you don't give it a try.
Of course you take a risk because you can never return to the status quo but in most cases it is worth it.

Athena might not meet the standards of Moriarty. She is not a genius but in some regards she is even superior to Jamie. She enjoys being together with Sherlock without having any ulterior motive, she is a very positive person and it is obvious that she makes him feel good. We have rarely seen Sherlock as relaxed with another person as we saw him with Athena at the beginning of the episode. Whenever he has a problem with one of his cold cases or when he feels down it is her he meets with and yet it has never occurred to him before that she might be more to him than a paramour.

Luckily with Watson, Sherlock has got a friend who is a great "Geek Interpreter". She is always able to explain things in a way that he understands.

In the end he decides to try a relationship with Athena even if the outcome is uncertain.

Love won't be captured by no one
It is wild and free and it whistles round my head
All in all despite my questions, I don't know all the answers
And my heart will rise and fall with the rhythm of the dancers
Still the same things bring me joy as the sun sinks into the water
I will follow, follow until one day I understand

I liked the scene where Sherlock tells Harlan that if he needed to disrobe he could and that his home was a safe place. It shows how much Sherlock cares about his friends. He sometimes might seem aloof but situations like this one show that this is not true at all.

Hello,
Can you suggest me anything about it. I have identified a DNS issue with certain Internet Service providers that is causing a connection to the Arlo app to fail. Recently I read the Netgear Arlo support guidelines and new service plans for Arlo home security at https://www.netgearroutersupportnumber.com/netgear-arlo-support/ before I buy. But I won't get more about router infrastructure.

I do not really have any particular comment on this episode, I just kind of liked the feel of it and the way Sherlock acted and decided to take a chance on something and how you often see him very confident but he was nervous and you could see that he really has been lacking something in his life. You have seen a lot of growth in Sherlock, as well as in his relationships with friends this season.

Great review.
