  • Very intense!

This was a spectacular hour of Elementary as Sherlock races against the clock to save joan after the events of the episode before this.

Mycroft had an agenda of his own which made the plot doubly excitign and it took some interesting and unexpected turnes throughout, creating a great hour of tv.

Not a huge fan of the ending because the last scene was a little weird. It sort of had a resolution but not really... there was no cliffhanger no suspenseful ending, but also no realy good solution...

Nonetheless, I am intrigued to see where the show goes from here in the last two eps!moreless
  • Sherlock is forced to work with his estranged brother Mycroft in order to save Watson from a group of ruthless criminals.

Lucy Liu makes her directorial debut with this very good episode. Here she shows she is capable of doing as good a job behind the camera as she does in front of it. It's not just the storyline concerning Watson and her predicament that makes this episode great, it is also the excellent scenes of Holmes reluctantly working with Mycroft to rescue her. Johnny Lee Miller and Rhys Ifans are excellent in every scene they are in. Their scenes are 100% believable, If I did not know better I would think I was seeing real life events playing out on my television screen and not just actors playing parts. My only criticism of this episode was its less than satisfying conclusion. I am sure more will be explained in the final episodes of the season. however, but still the ending made the episode feel incomplete to a certain degree. That aside, "Paint It Black" is a truly excellent episode of this great series.moreless
  • Great Episode.

    9.5
This was the best episode this season. It was refreshing. I think that the NYPD just makes the show dull. This episode was great partly because NYPD officers. Rhys, Lui and Miller did a great job. They are very talented actors. I think holmes must take more cases not involving the NYPD. Otherwise it is the same crime drama shows. They should make it more like the BBC version. You get to see Holmes at his full potential.moreless
  • Fade Away Til Darkness Goes

    8.5
Great TV directorial debut for Lucy Liu. And the expose of the Holmes brothers was terrific - up until this episode I was pretty much hating Mycroft - now I will probably end up getting just disgusted with him. That is unless the story arc makes him into a heroic figure unlike the unlikable version within the BBC's Sherlock. That would be cool having him as an irascible, mysterious & highly skilled "uber"-spy.moreless
  • Rotted to Bones

    9.5
This is an incredibly dark installment of Elementary and I have to say, it was incredibly refreshing. Seeing Sherlock back to his starkly cold and calculating self (because he's being beyond emotional) was great. Having Joan be the good person she is and try to help only to have her patient shot because of her urgings was great. Having Sherlock and Mycroft working together (even if toward a double-cross) was great. It was tense and highly intelligent and just a superb episode overall.moreless

    • Hostetler: (pointing at a table filled with all kinds of food) Please, please help yourselves Gentlemen. This arrangement's intended only for this meeting.
Holmes: (looking at the table) Oh, not at all wasteful.
Hostetler: (laughing affectedly) It's not everyday we get the chance to sit down with members of such an influential family. Eh, your father has a reputation of being sui generis.
Holmes: My father is a Lovecraftian horror who uses his money to bludgeon his way to evermore obscene profits.
Hostetler: And Crédit Versoix is the perfect banking partner for a man accustomed to the aggressive practice of business.
Holmes: Yes, well parried. But unfortunately you are wasting your time. We have not, in spite of what Mycroft told you on the phone, come here to discuss making a large deposit of our father's plunder. We have come to offer my services as a consulting detective.

    • Mycroft: I-I realized just now I've never actually apologized for what's happened to Joan. My...role in the situation is complicated, but I...
Holmes: How is it complicated? It seems simple enough to me.
Mycroft: Well, I-I just wanted to let you know I'm sorry. If anything happened to Joan, I'd never forgive myself.
Holmes: Well, that won't be an issue. If anything happens to Joan, I will murder you.

    • Mycroft: I know why you're upset.
Holmes: My very good friend might be murdered by your very bad friends. Brilliant deduction, Mycroft.
Mycroft: You're not sure you can do what needs to be done without her. This is more than just a case. Without her to keep you focused, to keep you settled--
Holmes: Is that what you think she is? Hmm? A simple counterbalance?
Mycroft: I think she's the person you love most in the world.
