Eli is at the airport in India trying to get the customs officer to let him take the coffee can with the remnants of his father's ashes. The officer refusing, believing he might be smuggling drugs. Eli says a final farewell to his father and telling him to keep him from getting any more visions.
In San Francisco, Eli returns to find Patti frantically juggling his clients. He gives her a statue from his trip and says that he seems to be back to normal after two weeks without visions. Patti is concerned that she might be fired even if Eli no longer can. Eli goes to the staff meeting where Jordan welcomes him back. Eli manages to get the case of U.S. vs. Salinsky, while a new associate, Maggie Dekker, brings them the case of Ramirez vs. Gro-Plus Farms. Senior partner Martin Posner is impressed that she got them to represent the Gro-Plus company… until she reveals that they're representing the Ramirez couple against the company in a workman's comp suit. She wants Eli to take on the case after his success with Beth, but he refuses. However, he starts to hear an unseen boys' choir is singing and is less than thrilled.
Eli goes to see is brother Nathan who says that he's checked and surgical intervention could severely cripple Eli mentally or physically. Eli tells about what he did with their father's ashes and wonders if Nathan thinks there's some greater significance to his visions. Nathan doesn't think so and tells Eli to take things easy for a while.
Out on the street, Eli calls Chen on his cell phone but is interrupted when a small biplane comes flying down the street straight at him. Eli dives to the ground and then realizes it's another vision. Back at WPK, he has Patti check for reports a biplane and a list of Northern California choirs. She complains that she's been receiving dozens of e-mails, all from Maggie. Maggie confronts him and asks if he'll take the Ramirez case but he refuses, believing it's impossible to win a case defending illegal aliens. He goes to see Jordan about the Salinsky case but as they're discussing it, Eli sees the biplane heading for the office window. He tells Jordan to get down and dive for the floor, and Jordan is duly puzzled by what he's talking about. Eli tries to cover by talking about glare while picking up his things, including the files Maggie sent him. He sees a photo of the Ramirez couple: standing in front of a biplane. He asks for time off to discuss the Salinsky case so he can take on the Ramirez case.
Eli and Maggie go to court with Blanca and Oscar Ramirez, who claim that Gro-Plus' use of chemicals led to Blanca's sterility. Eli proves that Gro-Plus' protective masks consist of a bandanna, but the defense attorney notes that Ramirezes are the only ones claiming sterility. Oscar responds that they're the only legal immigrants working in those fields for Gro-Plus and thus the only ones that come to court.
Jordan meets with Taylor and admits he's concerned about his recent actions. She assures him Eli is fine and they agree to meet later for lunch. Taylor then goes into the ladies' room and cries. Patti comes in and the isn't thrilled with Taylor, and Taylor thinks they should be uniting to help Eli. She mentions his brain aneurysm, unaware that Patti doesn't know about it.
That night, Eli and Maggie meet with Gro-Plus' attorney, who tells them to dismiss the case. The person who sold the Ramirezes their papers was a fraud and because Oscar is a pilot, they'll be able to get him deported before the case can be resolved. Eli rejects the offer and is furious with Maggie for failing to turn up this useful information.
Oscar doesn't understand why they're being deported despite Eli's best efforts to explain. Eli represents them at the deportation hearing, which is at the same time as the Ramirez case. He tells Maggie to stall for time and goes to the hearing, where he manages to buy the Ramirezes 48 hours. Meanwhile, Maggie calls Blanca to the stand and has her testify to her co-workers who are infertile due to the chemicals. However, Gro-Plus' attorney notes that she has no idea if she was infertile before working for the company. Blanca is forced to admit that she had a child before she met Oscar and gave it up for adoption, and the Gro-Plus attorney notes she's a liar.
Eli is less then thrilled at the news and gives Maggie grief, but she notes he lied to a judge and storms out. Patti gives him the information on boys' choirs. However, he notices she's mad at him and she admits she's furious because after all the time they've worked together, he didn't tell her about his aneurysm. He admits that he wants to keep the info secret because the more he talks about it, the more real it seems.
Later at his apartment, Taylor apologizes for telling Patti, unaware that she didn't know. She's willing to work with Eli despite her initial concerns, and promises not to tell her father. However, he doesn't want to talk to her about it right now, even though she insists it involves both of them.
The next day, the jury finds against the Ramirezes, and Oscar is unhappy about the fact his wife had another man's baby and didn't tell him. Eli, in the same situation, tries to explain to Oscar how it feels. It turns out she left the child at a church. As Oscar leaves to get some rest for the deportation hearing, Eli hears singing from the lobby of WPK. The same choir is performing with Jordan singing to Eli. Eli snaps out of the vision to find himself face-to-face with Jordan, and covers by expressing an interest in his tie. He then asks for one more day to think over the Salinsky case.
Eli meets with Chen and complains that he's not winning the case. The acupuncturist notes that it all seems to be leading to the deportation hearing, and that most prophets didn't succeed every time. When Chen points out how the Ramirezes have had it worse then Eli, Eli gets an idea for his closing statement.
In court, Eli starts by asking Oscar questions from the U.S. naturalization test and noting that the couple is qualified to become citizens if only given a chance. He insists they should be treated as people rather than numbers, and the judge grants them two years to complete the citizenship process. The Ramirezes plan to look for Blanca's missing child and Eli realizes that the church she left him at is the one with the boys' choir Eli has been seeing in his visions. He gives them the address so they can be reunited with their child.
Eli goes to see Jordan and says he won't be taking the Salinsky case, but plans to spend his time changing his ways and helping those who truly need help. Jordan accepts his decision but warns that like Don Quixote, Eli may have to give up everything to serve the poor, and wonders what Eli will have to give up.
Eli talks to Patti on the way out and she says they're okay although isn't big on hugging. He then apologizes to Maggie for snapping at her earlier and assures her she'll do better the next time.
Later at home, Eli tells Taylor everything that happened, admitting he wants to be honest with her from now on. They end up making out on the couch but Eli starts to hear artillery fire and finds himself in the middle of a battlefield…
