Episode Recap

Eli undergoes surgery when his blood pressure starts to drop... and he wakes up from his dream. At work, Matt goes up in the elevator with Eli and tries to offer him some comfort. Eli notices that everyone is treating him nicely and demands that Patti be mean to him. He then meets with David Green who wants help dying. His wife is trying to get him to have chemo for the third time and he refuses, and she wants to stop him from making his medical decisions. Green says that he prayed to God and got a feeling that he shouldn't undergo chemo again.

Eli goes to Nathan and asks him to be his health care proxy. Nathan thinks he's nuts but agrees.

However, it becomes clear that Eli is having a vision. At the hospital, in the real world, Nathan is called in when there's word that Eli's condition has worsened.

Maggie come in to see Eli and thank him for saving Scott, and wants to work on Green's case as second chair. Eli wonders if she's doing it because of her concern for his dying. He assures her that he's not concerned as long as there's something definite. It's the in-between that bothers him

Green and his wife Rebecca meet for a conference and she insists that their children need their father, but he insists that he believes he should give up the therapy. Afterward, Jordan meets with Eli and notes that he's become impressed with Eli over the years, and put him on the fast track for partner. As they talk, he gets Eli into the conference room where the staff has gathered to hear the announcement that Eli has been promoted as a junior partner. Everyone congratulates him as Jordan notes that he made Eli a partner because of his compassion.

In the real world, Jordan stands over a comatose Eli and begs him to wake up.

In court, Rebecca testifies that David grew more despondent and she believes that God wants him to try and live. Afterward, Green wonders if Eli is having second thoughts about helping him and Eli asks exactly what happened. Green says that it was a moment of clarity and he had peace.

Later, Taylor comes to see Eli in his new office and he apologizes for trampling over her when he tried to get to the top. She says he's the most important person in her life and how he taught her about love. She tells him he's not dead yet.

In the real world, Taylor tells Eli he's not dead and she'll be there for him no matter what. Nathan comes in and explains how there was a hemorrhage and the aneurysm burst. He notes that Eli made sure that he didn't want to live this way but Taylor notes he doesn't have to honor Eli's request. Nathan insists on honoring Eli and not letting him down again.

Eli talks to Dr. Chen and questions his good fortune, then discusses Green. He wonders why he hasn't found the clarity and peace that Green has. Chen notes that when he was in his commune he never was close to God and when he left he studied religions. Now he thinks God has sent Eli to inspire him, and admits that Eli has lifted his burdens.

In the real world, Chen wakes up from his dream of Eli and goes to see Nathan. He insists that Eli is trying to get a message to him through his dreams, and Eli doesn't know that the surgery is over… yet. Nathan wants to believe him but he insists that Eli isn't going to get better and he'd be betraying Eli if he placed his needs ahead of his brother's. Chen shows him the photo of Nathan's dad with Chen when they worked together, and Nathan decides to give Eli 24 hours.

In court, Eli has Green testify and has him state that he's happier then ever. However, Rebecca's attorney wonders if he's delusional since he's rejecting scientific facts. Green insists that there are rational explanations for anything if you look hard enough. Afterward, Rebecca comes to see Eli ex parte and notes she can't win. She wants Eli to convince Green that fighting for one's life is worth it. Eli talks to Green and admits he can win the case but tries to convince Green to want to live, and that God wants him to live. Green insists he is fighting for the life he has now. He says he had everything before the cancer but he was too devoted to his work and had no time for God or his family. Now he has a full life and a purpose and he wants to keep it.

In court, Eli insists that God speaks to those with faith and he started seeing visions that he believes came from God. He says the last few months have been the best in his life and anything that inspires people to change their lives for the better, he hopes they're all crazy.

In the real world, Jordan comes to see Taylor and collect her to be at Eli's bedside as Nathan makes his decision. She admits the whole thing wasn't what she expected when she started working at WPK, and Jordan tries to console her. He admits that he is changing, the firm is changing, and it's all due to Eli. He asks Taylor to stay and help and she agrees.

In court, the judge finds in Green's favor. As Eli lies in bed, Green crashes and dies in the bed next to him.

Everyone gathers at Eli's bedside. In his coma, Eli confronts Chen and notes that he hasn't changed his clothes and he simply appears from place to place. He realizes the surgery has occurred and gone bad. Chen in his dream tells him not to be dead if he doesn't want to be and that if Eli wants to, he can let go and people will get by without him. But Eli realizes that he has more to do and Chen offers him an acupuncture treatment. Eli finds himself in a black void face-to-face with George Michael. When Eli asks how to get back, George starts to sing and his friends appear to him, singing as well. Eli thinks back to everything that's happened to him. He looks up to the heavens… and in the real world, Eli opens his eyes.
