      • Brimmer: The things one must endure.
        Godfrey Pearl: What's that?
Brimmer: The perpetual agony of Miss Aggie. I'm well aware, sir, that a man of your taste and discernment hardly chooses to listen to this sort of thing, day after day.
Godfrey Pearl: Hmmph. My wife wouldn't miss this program for the world.
Brimmer: Whereas, women of the utmost intelligence can readily identify with the plain, honest simplicity of that wonderful woman.

      • Ellery: Miss Bethune?
Vera: Oh, I'm so sorry. No more interviews.
Ellery: Oh, I'm not a reporter.
        Vera: Oh?
Ellery: My name is Ellery Queen.
Vera: Ellery Queen? The Ellery Queen?
        Ellery: Well...uh....
Vera: Oh, but you must come in, Mr. Queen. Please, you must. Oh, I'm so happy you're here. I am terrified, Mr. Queen, absolutely terrified. Someone tried to kill me, you know.
Ellery: Who tried to kill you?
Vera: Well, my word, if I knew that, wouldn't I have told that funny little inspector?
        Ellery: That's my father.
Vera: Oh. Well, I meant "funny" in the complimentary way. Such a wonderful sense of humor.
        Ellery: Huh?

      • Ellery: Well, I have to run. I'll be in touch.
        Vera: Au revoir, Ellery.
Louise: Queen. Queen, he's not the fellow who wrote all those whodunnits?
        Vera: The very same.
Louise: Oh, my dear, I thought you said he was an author.

      • Vera: Olivia's a cretin but what can you expect? This is radio.

      • Inspector Queen: Between no sleep and this diet I'm turning into a pretty poor excuse for a father.

      • Vera (to Ellery): Miss Aggie should never appear afraid.

      • Louise (to Vera): If you're not safe in the RCA Building you're not safe anywhere.

      • Inspector Queen (to Ellery): That was the Mayor. His wife is in mourning for Miss Aggie.

      • Inspector Queen: Get out of here, Brimmer. This is one case you're not gonna be meddling in.

      • Ellery: It's about Vera Bethune, Mr. Warren.
        Warren: I already gave.

      • Warren (about why he broke up with Vera): Why tie your wagon to a dead horse?

      • Ellery: What about your diet?
Inspector Queen: The Constitution of the United States expressly forbids cruel and unusual punishment.

      • Ellery: Dad, we'd better get down to that station right away. Simon's gonna accuse the wrong person.

      • Inspector Queen: You're paying suspects?
Brimmer: Unfortunately, Inspector, my suspects are members of the radio actors union. I have no choice.

      • Pearl (to Brimmer): Don't call me, I'll call you!
