      Johnny is sure that this day will be filled with strange occurrences. First the paramedics deal with a woman who fell into a tree - a parachuting accident. They help an obese jogger with chest pains, while at Rampart, Dr. Brackett and Dixie treat a man with persistent... hiccups... and Dr. Early helps eighty year old Bernadette Spalding, who broke her ankle dancing. A boy tries at home cryogenics by freezing himself (with instructions to open the freezer in 1992). Roy and Johnny treat a woman bitten by a rattlesnake, and a taxi brings a foreign sailor to Rampart who can't explain what's wrong because he can't speak English and no one can speak whatever language he does command, until Dixie and Dr. Early who were both talking into a female interpreter to find out what really went wrong. Mrs. Spalding's party finally finds her, as the paramedics climb a steep embankment to reach a driver who went over the edge. Johnny twists his knee, but the driver, a drunk, isn't hurt at all! Fortunately, the day will soon be over.

      Roy and John are trapped at Station 86 when a rain storm washes out the bridge, and they become the only medical treatment in the area. They assist two victims of an auto accident and a child with bronchitis. Doctors at the hospital treat a policeman hit by lightning. With the aid of a female psychiatrist, the paramedics treat an elderly woman with a hip injury and a man with heart trouble. Copter 15 transports the victims to the hospital, where a power failure complicates matters.       Between Station 51 and Rampart, nobody can understand why 51's Mascot, Boot the dog, refuses to eat anything. With Chet yelling at the dog, Dixie, Drs. Brackett and Morton received the temperature. John and Roy approach a woman who got her hair caught in a mixer, where her hand was trapped in a bowl, then, her stove catches on fire prior to making dinner. Then, a woman trapped in her sportscar pinned underneath a gasoline trailer tanker truck; and an explosion at a Rampart Hospital lab endangers the workers and important records stored there. The doctors treat an unconscious man suffering from internal bleeding caused by taking aspirin with Coumadin-brand warfarin and a man, who is convinced that he is suffering from a curse.

      An out of control brushfire threatens a large area in the valley; Station 51 is one of many called to respond. They meet 79 year old Winifred Lenover and her 80 year old sister, who hate each other. Winifred needs medical help but won't leave the house in her sister's care. A boy named Andy, whose arm is broken in three places, finds his way to the hospital but wants to leave to go find his missing dog Grover. Dixie takes care of that boy, before Dr. Brackett reprimands both her and Roy, in begging them to leave, realizing firemen are taking the wildfires pretty seriously. Five runs in six hours and the paramedics still aren't done: they treat a fireman named Conway whose leg is pinned under a tree, a pregnant woman who cannot be moved until she gives birth, and whose house will shortly be engulfed, the victim of a stampede, and a motorcyclist who ran off the road while looting evacuated homes.

      The squad has to share a biophone with other units which leads to problems when a policeman friend of John's gets injured in a car crash. Other cases include a drunk child, a motorcycle gang war, whom John and Roy treat in the hospital, with the help of Dr. Brackett and Dixie, and an artist trapped in his own sculpture.

      The boys at the fire station enter a contest to invent new and improved firefighting tools. A man in a coma suffering from a mysterious ailment, hence, Dr. Early receives the booze from Johnny, to give to Dixie. Cases include an overweight child wedged in a living room ceiling, victims of radiation poisoning, and a leak at a chemical plant.

      Gage and DeSoto travel to San Francisco, where they observe some topnotch women paramedics in action during major rescue missions. An injured worker is stranded on the Golden Gate bridge. Ambulance squads treat a heart attack victim at a dance bar and an epileptic at a coffee shop. A bad driver causes a traffic accident involving an ambulance carrying the heart patient, resulting in his death and five other injuries. Johnny dates a nurse interested in a long-term relationship. Careless workers and deadly chemicals combine to spark an explosive fire at a pier on the Embarcadero.

      It's Roy's turn as company cook, and that has everyone else worried, especially when they learn he's going to make a French dish! Johnny delivers a cyanotic baby while at Rampart, and Dixie congratulates him on his behalf. Dr. Early helps a boy whose hand is stuck inside an expensive Ming vase, who asks a klutzy student nurse, Sharon Walters, to find a pack of ice for the boy, when Dixie cautions Sharon not to run around in the hospital. A man trying to repair a washing machine accidentally electrocutes himself, and a sixteen year old may face permanent disability from a drug overdose. Finally, the whole company responds to a man who climbed a construction crane's boom intending to suicide, and then changed his mind.

Dr. Brackett deals with a rambunctious man who went surfing with a broken leg, and treats a lady with a neurological disorder. Dixie is tired of all the nonsense happening in the hospital and taking advantage of anybody's emergencies someplace else. Radioactivity impedes the rescue of a lab worker.

Finally, the entire station works for hours to rescue Elena Diaz, a child who has fallen into a hole at a construction site - and Wheeler winds up getting the press! But this time, Johnny doesn't care, after Dixie treated a taken lady whom he was going to see. He's just happy he got the child out alive.
