AIRED:
Harry sells his pediatrics practice to another doctor, who ends up firing Laverne. When the hospital sends Harry to check out an inner-city clinic, he ends up teaming up with the owner, Dr. Maxine Douglas, to keep the place open. Laverne joins them as nurse. Meanwhile, Sophia Petrillo moves back into nearby Shady Pines retirement home and drops by the Weston house.moreless

Sullivan and Cheech Marin, stars of The Golden Girls/The Golden Palace are never seen on Empty Nest with this season and hereby remain lost in television history, however, Sophia mentions at least Dorothy, Rose and Blanche time to time.

      • According to some sources, Sophia does mention Blanche and Rose but doesn't directly say anything about the golden palace hotel. The Golden Palace was the continuation (on CBS) of The Golden Girls about Rose, Blanche and Sophia buying a hotel but it was axed after one season of 24 episodes.

      • Marsha Warfield joins the cast as Dr. Maxine Douglas.

      • Estelle Getty joins the cast as her Golden Girl character, Sophia Petrillo.
