In this episode, Peter Benton tells Cleo that he found his med school application filed in the back with three others under "AA" for "Affirmative Action." However, in season three, he told Dennis Gant that when he applied to med school he didn't "check the box" [indicating that he was African-American].
The title of the episode comes from the Bishop telling Luka when he decided to be a priest. He was taking a walk in the woods while it was snowing.
(Abby and Chen are in the ambulance bay) Abby: You look great! Chen: Oh, I still have a few pounds to drop. Abby: We can't tell. Chen: I should have brought my coat. Abby: I can go in and grab it. Chen: No, I'm alright.
(Talking to Luka, upon his return to the ER) Bishop: I came here because I prefer your care.
(Kerry still in bed...Legaspi sitting on bed in a robe) Legaspi: I need to dry my hair. (She kisses Kerry's hand, Kerry smiles.) Legaspi: Are you going to watch me again? Kerry: Um hmm.
Abby: You watch me when we make love. Luka: You're beautiful. Abby: What was her name? Luka: Who? Abby: Your wife. Luka: Danijela. Abby: Did you love her very much? Luka: Yeah. Abby: I'm glad.
(Luka is standing outside in the snow, looking up at the sky) Abby: Luka? What are you doing? Luka: I, I couldn't find a forest. Abby: What? (silence) You brought Bishop Stewart back in? How's he doing? Luka: He's dying. Abby: He might surprise you. We get enough miracles around here, why not one more? (silence) I'm freezing. Ready to go home? Luka: Yeah.
The Bishop: As I was sitting here, I was reminded of the night I chose to become a priest. I had been struggling with it for a long time. Several years. Anyway, that night I could'nt sleep. So I, I got up and went for a walk in the woods behind my fathers house. It was snowing like it is now. I don't have any idea how long I walked, but at a certain point I realised I did'nt know which way to go. I'd gotten lost. I was frightened. As I looked up into that dark night, he came to me. I saw all those millions of snow-flakes drifting down toward me. So still. So peaceful. Perfect. And I was filled with the love of our Lord Jesus Christ. Like pouring wine into an empty glass. I'm afraid I may have waisted my life. For some reason, that I never accomplished the things I should've. What God wanted of me. And now I'm frightened. I'm afraid of dying. There, I said it. I am afraid to die.
Malucci: That Legaspi's girlfriend, I hear she's gay. Weaver: I don't know. Malucci: What I wouldn't pay to drop in on that little party, huh!
(Abby and Luka are in bed) Abby: You're okay? Luka: Uh huh. You? Abby: A penny for your thoughts! Luka: Pardon? Abby: It means, it means "what're you thinking about"? Luka: Nothing really... I was thinking about the bishop. Abby: Making love with me makes you think of a priest with lupus?
Elizabeth: It's despicable, Kerry, I hope some day you come down with a potentially terminal illness so I can do absolutely nothing to help you.
Mark: I hope my irradiated head doesn't screw up any navigational equipment on our next flight.
Romano: My gardener could have gotten a 3.8 at the U of I, and he had his head run over by an ice cream truck as a kid. Benton: I went to the University of Illinois...
James Cromwell (Bishop Lionel Stewart) was nominated for an Emmy Award in the Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series category for his work in this episode.
