Title: "Believe the Unseen" The title of this episode is a reference to the motto of 1st Touch Foundation, an organization started in 2005 by baseball player Derrek Lee. Lee, who was a guest star earlier in the season in "Gravity," has a daughter that suffers from Lebers Congenital Amaurosis (LCA), an extremely rare disease which causes severe vision loss and blindness, and one that is highlighted in this episode.
While playing hockey, one of the doctors says "just a bit outside." This is a reference to a scene in the 1989 film Major League, when announcer Harry Doyle (played by Bob Uecker) uses the phrase "just a bit outside" to describe a pitch that's actually about three feet off the plate.
