- Anspaugh: Ah, I see. A "Big Brother is watching" sort of thing. Dr. Anspaugh is referring to the classic dystopian novel 1984, written by English author George Orwell and published in 1949. The principle behind Big Brother is that no one can do anything without their actions being monitored by the ruling party.
