In the very typical Christon way and using flashbacks, we learn what has happend to carter those past months hes been in congo...and also introducing "Kem", whom he now is expecting a child with. She's working on an aids project...
Wauw...there are the regular great episodes of ER, and then once in a while there is the Chrichton episode wich i call them. This is a pivotal episode, and a very special one...i was a big fan of abby and carter and even though they broke up, they where in my mind never really broken completely up. But the Kem part did that...and i have to admid...i did break a litle tear...it was one of these events that i call " getting closure" and where everything comes together...and some how i fell for the carter and Kem thing... I love the way it was told in the storyline...it really kept getting closer and closer to the explanation on the baby theme in the opening, by feeding the wiewer with bits and pieces..this has to be my favorite epsidode so far, along with the one with the backwards theme ( the one where luca gets in an accident and the christmas party,,)
It really made me and some other wonder as we did not see Carter for so many episodes, that what has he been doing - now we see it all from the moment Luka left and what has happened with little mixes from the present Christmas on ER - unique Christmas episode, also.
I adore those Congo episodes - I just cannot tell why, but they are really great. The emotion, the eye-opening different view and story - maybe that shock therapy to show us that there is much more than we see around us every day. Not everyone are so lucky as we.
I loved that Christmas present idea there and storyline with Celine and her family - a really moving on. And Kem - that character as something - not plain, not black and white, with hard and difficulty to understand. I really started to like her.
He seems to of really settled down there. He did just ask Kem to go back to the states, but that is just temporary. That was nice how he gave every kid a present. Even the one who had aids and was dying. The thought that counts. It was sad seeing so much bad, but it really opens your eyes to how bad things are elsewhere. It was like an alternate reality.
I didn't like the episode, i mean they tried to put Carter as the hero because all the help he do out in the Congo, ok, maybe he did a lot if work but anyway he was horny. How could he forget so fast of Abby. Ok, maybe you know notice that i sopport Abby/Carter, this episode the only thing that do was breaking my heart. I still think Abby and Carter are made for each other.
Ok, beside the fact that i didn't like this episode, i like how the relation between Neela and Dr. Gallant i like better those two rather tan Dr. Pratt and the sister of Gallant.
If you want to understand why Kem and Carter are together then this episode is essential.
However, a warning, this episode is not directed like the other episodes of ER. Rather it's directing style attempts to permit the actors to interact in what appears to be a very natural, off-the-cuff manner. Kind of refreshing.
