The title of this episode, "Shifts Happen," was the original title of the Season 9 episode "A Thousand Cranes."
Abby: I need a favor. Richard: Abby, it's 8 o'clock in the morning. Abby: Yeah, I know. I don't have a lot of time. I need you to co-sign a loan. Richard: Why don't you just declare bankruptcy? Abby: Look, I'm not in trouble, ok? I just need you... Richard: You want me to support you? Abby: No. I never asked for alimony, I didn't contest anything in court, I didn't take the damned furniture. Richard: You could have, if you wanted to. Abby: Look, you must know how much I hate to do this. I wouldn't do it unless it was absolutely necessary. I don't want your money, I just want your signature.
Abby: You glad to be home? Luka: Yes and no. I miss it. You're not in your own head all the time. Part of something that's in constant motion over there. Any break you get from it is a luxury. Not something to be taken for granted. Abby: And that's different from County how? Luka: It's an addiction, I guess. Abby: Yeah, it certainly hooked Carter. Luka: Yeah. How are you doing with that? Abby: Without him, you mean? I'm fine. I'm better than fine. Luka: So you're happy? Abby: Getting there. I'm making a few decisions. Luka: Like what? Abby: (as her pager goes off) I don't want to jinx myself. Work wants me back. Luka: Tonight? Pretend you didn't get the page. Abby: I need the money. Luka: See you soon then? Abby: Yeah. Good night.
Nurse at counter: Oh, Abby, you're back. Can you cover for Melinda at triage? Abby: Sure, I'd love to. (talking to herself) Triage is my personal favorite. Thanks for asking.
Kerry: How's it going? Abby: You talking to me? Kerry: Yeah. Abby: Fine. Kerry: Glad to hear it. You're one of the best nurses on the floor with all the changes that Robert's been making, and I'd hate to lose you. Abby: Thanks!
Nurse: Dr. Pratt, your open-fracture patient demands to be euthanized.
Cooper: I like your style man. Pratt: Oh yeah? Get your own.
Lewis: I never thought I'd say this, but I kind of miss 'little stumpy' [Romano].
Romano: You are a screw-up Pratt; and, just to make myself clear, I didn't like you before I knew that.
Corday: Your acute abdomen is accutely constipated. Give him an enema and some Colace. Pratt: How did I know you were going to say that?
