Goof: Luka states that identical twins run in his family, but in fact there is no hereditary trait that influences a predisposition to having identical twins. The causes of monozygotic twinning (when a single fertilized egg splits into two or more embryos) is not known; technically it's a malfunction of the normal development process. Although there may be a high incidence of identical twins in some families, it is due to chance. Having fraternal twins, on the other hand, can run in the family, but on the mother's side only, as dizygotic twinning is the result of inheriting a gene for hyperovulation, which increases the chance of two or more eggs being released and subsequently fertilized.
(Abby and Luka are sitting at the table while Abby eats and goes over a list of things to do before the baby comes)
Abby: You know, thank God the human species has a 9 month gestation period. Can you imagine if we were rats and I was going to pump this thing out in like 6 weeks? Isn't that scary!?
Luka: No, but you're scaring me.
Abby: Really? (she gets a look of mischief on her face and acts as if she is going to flick food with her fork)
Luka: No. Come on. Don't you dare!
Abby: Don't I dare? Are your daring me?
Luka: Wow! What is it with you?
Abby: I don't know! I don't know. It's like a hormonal surge. I can't sleep, I can't stop eating. I can't... Maybe I'm nesting. Do you think I'm...? No.. I think I just need to get ready.
Luka: We still have plenty of time.
Abby: Yes, I know you say that, but it's going to go fast. So I think I don't want to jinx anything. But maybe we should just... look at some things. I mean, not to buy, but to do comparison shopping, for later.
Luka: You want to go shopping?
Abby: I want to go looking.
Luka: Baby monitors?
Abby: Yes: monitors, cribs, car seats. Maybe a little mobile of famous Croatian diplomats.
(Luka gets a confused look on his face)
Abby: It's a joke!
Luka: So, if we have twins, we need to have four of everything?
Abby I'm not having twins.
Luka: Ahh, identical twins run in my family.
Abby: Are you kidding me?
Luka: What? I mean, chances are really small.
Abby: If your mutant Croatian seed causes me to have twins, I ...
Lukaism: Listen, look at it from the sunny side. If we have a custody fight, each one of us is going to take a kid.
Pratt: Wait. What are you doing man? (Morris unbuttons his shirt) You got extra nipples?
Morris: Yes! Red hair, porcelain skin, and four nipples. You know what gym class was like for me growing up? Hey, nipple boy, here here little piggy, look it's the ugly suckling! I heard them all
(Ray comes behind the curtain too).
Morris: Hey! We don't knock?
Ray: On a curtain? What are you guys doing with my patient anyway?
Pratt: Nothing. Morris was just showing me his extra pair of nipples.
Morris: Oh my God! I can't believe you just violated my doctor patient privilege!
Pratt: I'm not your doctor, Morris. And you sure as hell ain't my patient.
Ray: Wow, look at those! That is freaky! You should get them all pierced, wear 'em like chain mail.
(After Abby pulls Luka into the dressing room)
Abby: Shhhhh.
Luka: Don't tell me to shhhh.
(Then Luka pulls Abby into him and they kiss)
Abby: We shouldn't be doing this.
Luka: You started this one.
(They continue to kiss and end up on the floor)
(in response to Abby's suggestion they wait a week or two before telling anyone about the baby)
Luka: Uh... I might have mentioned something to my father.
Abby: You might have mentioned something to your father?
Luka: He's in Croatia. Who's he going to tell? (pauses a moment) Did you mention something to your mother?
Abby: Oh God, no. I need to build up to that one. Like to wait until he's at least in high school.
Luka: He?
Abby: Or she... Except I kind of think I'd be better with a boy because the mother/daughter dynamic really just scares the hell out of me.
(Hiding behind a rack of clothing, after Abby has spotted an employee from the pharmacy she's afraid will see them)
Luka: I don't even know who she is!
Abby: She knows who you are!
Luka: I don't think so.
Abby: Oh, Luka. Every woman that works in the hospital knows who you are. Trust me.
Title: "Split Decisions"
In boxing parlance, a "split decision" refers to a division of opinions among judges (versus a unanimous decision). In this episode it refers to the difference between the ER staff and Dubenko's approach to treating the older septic woman.
