Abby fears the worst when her brother Eric suddenly disappears. He is actually AWOL and she forges Carter's name to obtain his medical records. Carter and Chen treat a frightened Chinese immigrant nanny, Tong-Yi, whom they suspect was impregnated by her employer. Meanwhile, new surgical resident Paul Nathan, who is struggling to overcome a physical disability, tries to help in the emergency room—but his fellow doctors do not appreciate his advice to patients. Unable to quench his sexual appetites, Kovac also gets into trouble in his professional life, despite his admirable resolve to find an eye specialist to treat a young gunshot victim. Gallant and fellow medical student Erin Harkins engage in an escalating competition of medical knowledge. And Weaver gets some much-needed good news.moreless

The only constant thing...

It was beautiful episode - all the troubles we saw here, starting with Lewis whose patients all died, then Kerry who finally got some positive things and then ending with two major storylines for this episode - Abby and his brother Eric, who now comes out, may have a neurological disease. And to not make it all, he is in trouble with army too and in the end, when he shows up, he is arrested. Abby is out of herself and Carter is really there for her to support her. Sweet.

And the second main storyline was about Nathan - he wants to help patient but Elizabeth is going to fail him with reason. What comes out of it, I am not sure.moreless

Nathan once again persuades a dying patient to undergo treatment. Elizabeth is furious, and performs the surgery, but the man does not come through.

Nathan is a great listener but struggling with the effects of his disease after working for so many hours. Elizabeth refuses to pass him, unless he promises not to practice clinical medicine. He will not agree.

Gallant is facing stiff competition from Erin, who is proving to be a keen student. Abby is increasingly worried about Eric, when his girlfriend turns up without him. She contacts the airforce base for his medical records and brings MPs to find him, as he is UA. When Eric does show up, clearly manic, they arrest him and Abby feels unbelievably guilty and sad. Carter promises to never leave her alone to deal with her family problems.

Kerry is pregnant and reveals this to Susan at the end of her shift. Susan has had a terrible day, with three of her patients dying. We see her at home sitting down to a meal alone. Just a reminder of how lonely a job with such difficult hours can make you.

Luka is approached by a man who asks him to leave his wife alone. We see him in a bar, also alone after work. He is picked up by a woman, who turns out to be a hooker. You get the feeling that his thought is, at least this way he won't get into trouble at work.moreless
