Abby wakes up with Luka in his hotel room. At a job interview at a department store, her mother causes a disturbance and later flees town. Benton treats Jesse's girlfriend, who talks to the cops about Jesse's killers and later comes to him for help after a hit is put on her. Corday undergoes a grueling deposition for Mr. Patterson's lawsuit and lies to save herself. Greene discovers that his tumor is inoperable and later has a seizure.     Elizabeth has to pay the results of her fast leaving for weekend some episodes ago. She is called for some deposite and she lies when she is asked if she took proper and deep look when she was said that there might be a problem.

    Benton tries to make up with Cloe and deals with Jesse's girlfriend who might know who killed Jesse. She says something to Benton but does not confirm it to police. Later she does and goes to Benton's house as she is afraid that they will kill her too, now.

    Mark has secures and tells Carter and Elizabeth about her condition.

    Maggie is still around and makes even more troubles and is totally out of the control. But as Abby said, she will be gone for now. Hope so, as Abby seems to be totally broken.moreless

    Compared to the whole luka, Abby relationship now in the 13th series it's weird to see them not talking to each other or connecting in anyway. Abby seems to talk more to carter and her and luka are just there for each other without words.
    Maggie and Abby appeared to be getting on better and Maggie made me laugh when she said to Abby when you're not looking he stares at you, classic. Abby seems to be still caught up on her past , checking up on her mother and asking her to have a blood test .It implies that she's waiting for her past to happen again and awaiting the inevitable of her mother not taking her medication again. It came and went and Abby revealed that it's happened numerous times before and "It's the dance we do, we get lost in it for a little while but it always ends the same." An awesome quote and seeing her cry just reflected the hardships she has been through so many times.
     Mark revealed his inoperable tumour to Carter after a seizure then later told an emotional Corday the devastating news. An extremely heartfelt episode covering things that really affect our society.moreless

  • Abby's mother is out of control.

    I am focusing one just one aspect of this great episode: Abby and her mother. Abby's mom says she has a job interview at a clothing store downtown. Well, it turns out that there was no interview-Abby's mom was functioning according to some strange illusion. She freaks on the store owner, and thankfulll Abby was able to keep her from going to jail. Then, she freaks out again in the ER. Abby is weary to taking care of her mother. Her mother takes off to who knows where. Sally Field's acting is top-notch as usual, maybe a little over-the-top. I know a lot of bi-polar people and they don't freak out quite the way Field's character does.moreless

    This episode was so great yet so tragic - I didn't take my eyes off the screen for a minute and was left sharing in the depression of so many of ER's vital characetrs. The heart-wrenching story-lines and mood of the episode were helped by the amazing acting and careful writing. There were four main plots to this episode - the continuing aftermath of Jessie's death, Greene's illness, Abby and her mother and Corday's disposition. This created a good mix of the subtle understated emotion and the manic in-your-face energy of Sally Fields. It certainly felt like a bipolar episode, especially comparing the quiet sadness of its ending - Greene revealing his tumor to Elizabeth and Abby crying to herself - with the loudness of Maggie's screaming in the ER.
    'The Dance We Do' was really a character episode - it focused on the feelings and relationships of the doctors and nurses of the ER, giving us insight into why Abby is who she is today, the vulnerable side of Corday and a introduction to the future pain between Greene and Corday. In fact, I don't believe there was a single episode patient who wasn't connected to an ER member...
    It will be interesting to watch the next episode after this. I don't really see how ER can pick-up after such a low-ending note.moreless

    Abby\'s day begins when she wakes up in Luka\'s hotel room. She goes back to her apartment to find her mother sewing, creating a jacket for her job interview. Maggie is obviously at this point trying to make a big effort to get along with Abby and make up for her mistakes. Maggie leaves for her interview. Later on in the day, Abby finds her mother nearly being arrested after shoplifting at a department store. She is bleeding from an injury. At this point we get the idea maybe Maggie hasn\'t been taking her medication. Abby takes her back to the hospital where she fixes her hand up. She walks away for just a minute to do something, and Luka walks in and continues what Abby started to Maggie.

    Abby comes back and finds Maggie flirting outrageously with Luka, who is obviously uncomfortable. Abby apologizes to Luka for her mother, claiming it\'s the disease. This stirs up Maggie\'s feelings, and she starts yelling at Abby and grabs her face. She apologizes but Abby orders a nurse to retain her. Maggie refuses and screams, running out the ER yelling \"I\'m leaving!\". Luka catches her and drags her to the bed where she keeps on screaming, while everyone in the ER stares at her. Carter, Luka, Abby and Chuny restrain Maggie, and she screams at Abby to get them to stop, calling her names in the process. At the end of the day, Kim talks to Maggie, and Abby waits outside, Kim tells Abby Maggie wants to apologize, but Abby doesn\'t want to see her and leaves. She later finds out that Maggie has escaped, and she doesn\'t seem at all bothered claiming \"it\'s the dance we do.\" At the end of the episode, she\'s in Luka\'s hotel room again, she gets up to go the bathroom, turns the bath water on and starts crying.moreless

And I could'nt even claim responsibility. I sat there, and I swore to God, and I lied to save myself. Mark: God owes us one...I think you're allowed to be selfish for a while. (he moves his chair closer to hers) I didn't run into a street sign...I had a biopsy...Those headaches weren't from hockey.

    • (Maggie is going through fabrics to make clothes) Maggie: I'm gonna make you something, make that eurodoctor stand up and take notice. Abby: Eurodoctor? Maggie: I've been here long enough to know whats happening. Far as I'm concerned he's very handsome, but too old to be playing hard to get. Abby: Well, I thought I had him. Maggie: You do. You just don't know you do. When you're not looking, he stares at you all the time. Ah! Here it is! Come here! Come here, come here, come here, come here. We're gonna do one of those wrap-around dresses with a plunging neckline. Here we go. Abby: He stares at me? Maggie: All the time.

    • Carter: What are you going to do? Greene: Die, I guess. After today I'm probably not going to be able to work anymore.

    • Carter: Hey! Abby: Hey. Carter: Where did you go? I was looking all over for you. Abby: I took a walk. Got a cup of coffee. Carter: You did'nt get my page? Abby: I knew what it was about. Carter: Yeah, I guess. We were trying to get a bed for your mom and she just took off. Abby: I figured. Thanks. Carter: I thought maybe you'd like to check your apartment. Abby: She's not there. Carter: You checked? Abby: No. Ah, this is the end of a cycle. Our cycle. She disappears, and then for months I don't know where she is, what she's doing or if she's alive. Then eventually she'll turn up somewhere and I'll have to deal with it. Carter: I'm sorry. Abby: Don't be. I knew how it would be when she showed up. It's the dance we do. You get lost in it for a little while, but it always ends the same. Carter: Do you wan... (Luka interrupts him) Luka: You ready? Abby: Yeah. Luka: Carter, I forgot to tell Weaver. Enzymes are pending on Mr.Augern in four. Carter: I'll tell her. Luka: Thanks. Abby: Night Carter. (As they walk away together, Carter shakes his head)
