Mark and Elizabeth are in New York seeing a specialist about the brain tumor. Mark undergoes another test and is told to wait while the doctors debate whether or not the tumor is operable. They decide that it is and Mark will have his surgery on New Years Eve.
Chen goes into labor with Carter lending emotional support. The adoptive parents arrive at the hospital, wanting to be at the birth. Carter runs interference. He keeps this up for the rest of the episode while Jing-Mei debates whether or not she can give the baby boy up.
Later, Carter helps himself to a biker's stash of Vicodin. Immediately he runs to the bathroom and throws up the pills. He reaches into the toilet and pulls them out. He confesses to Abby, who tells him to tell Weaver that he's sick and then run to find a meeting.
Kerry gives Kim a special first edition book. She wants to continue their friendship. Kim explains that she finds Kerry too attractive and kisses her to bring the point home.
Kynesha is living with Cleo and Peter despite their efforts to get her into a halfway house. Peter can't bring himself to throw her out, although Cleo is more than willing to do the honors. When push comes to shove, however, Cleo isn't able to throw her out either.
