Goof: When Luka throws Abby her underwear, it appears black, but when the camera goes back to Abby, it seems to have changed to white.
Goof: In the previous episode, "Human Shield," Luka's hair is significantly longer, despite the negligible time differences between the two episodes.
A bag just like the one you see Eve carrying before she leaves for the airport is later seen at the scene of the crash, leading you to believe that Eve may have been on the plane that crashed.
Neela: Gates is like a dog in heat.
Inez: (to Ray) Yo Rocky.
Ray: He's still coming home right?
Neela: Not at the moment.
Ray: Oh, cool!...I mean, too bad. But erm, maybe I can come home now?
Neela: No.
Ray: No?
Neela: It's actually quite nice without you and that smell hasn't been there since you've been gone.
Ray: But it's my place!
Neela: Today was so... terrifying... and amazing. There was no labs, no x-rays, no rapid infusors or cut down trays, just me. Maybe it's the adrenaline, but I feel high. I need to go back out.
Abby: Sounds like I need to call for a psych consult.
Luka: What are you doing?
Abby: Looking for my underwear
Luka: You on tonight?
Abby: No.
Luka: Why are you leaving?
Abby: I just thought I should.
Luka: You should stay
Abby: I probably shouldn't. I have a lot of stuff I need to do and...
(Luka, in bed, flips the blanket)
Luka: Oh. Your bra.
Abby: Thank you
(Luka continues looking, then throws something to Abby, a naughty look on his face)
Luka: Panties... Still like ketchup on your eggs? I'll make you some breakfast.
Abby: I think we probably slept through breakfast... And lunch.
Pratt: OK, I'm going out with Pickman.
Clemente: Congratulations, have her home by ten.
(about Ray sleeping with the 14 year-old)
Neela: All things considered, you got off easy.
Ray: Oh, you bet my ass kicking was a breeze. All I had to do was lie there.
Neela: It beats jail time.
Luka: I was just thinking about, uh, I was thinking about what happened. Last night.
Abby: It was nice.
Luka: Nice?
Abby: Yeah. Wasn't it?
Luka: No. Yeah, of course...
Abby: But...?
Luka: What?
Abby: I don't know? (pause) I don't know, what do we do now?
Luka: Not sure.(struggling for words) For a long time, even when we weren't connecting a lot, you've... you've been the one person I can count on.
Abby: I feel like that, too.
Luka: You know that means a lot to me, that friendship.
Abby: Me too... So...? Maybe we should just leave it at that then?
Luka: I don't know... I don't wanna lose that, you know, but if that's what you...
Abby: So what we're saying is just, stay friends, like... (pause)
Luka: Need a lift?
Abby: No. I have, uhm, some stuff I need to finish inside...
Luka: Night.
Abby: See ya.
Abby: (following Neela, trying to keep her from leaving the hospital) Is there anything, anything I can say to make you stay?
Neela: No. (she continues to walk away)
Abby: I slept with Luka!
Neela: Yeah. Nice try.
Neela: You can come back on the following conditions: no more dirty dishes in the sink and no more using the couch as a clothes hamper.
Ray: Didn't I let you move in?
Eve (to Sam) Where do you need me?
Jerry: How about Peoria?
Jerry: (when he sees Eve walking into the ER) Ah, it's alive.
Neela: (to Abby) If I start to die, you'll be the first one I call.
Abby: I'd hate for you to stop breathing.
Neela: I'd hate for that too.
Abby: Neela, come on.
Neela: Can I at least go pee first?
Abby: I'll get you a bed pan.
Neela: You can stop being a med student.
Gates: As soon as you stop being a firefighter.
Kovac: Haleh?
Haleh: Sam called. Good thing too. It's been over two weeks and my husband was driving me crazy.
This episode received an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Sound Editing for a Series.
The airplane wreckage used in this episode was brought in from a commercial airline "graveyard" near Edwards Air Force Base in Palmdale, California. The parts were transported on seven 50-foot trucks. In addition, the plane crash set took 50 crew members two weeks to build.
Although in the opening credits, Scott Grimes and Laura Innes do not appear in this episode.
Clemente: This incident is like Night of the Living Dead.
Clemente is referring to the 1968 zombie classic.
Title: "Two Ships"
The title of this episode is a reference to the expression "two ships passing in the night," that is, a random encounter or missed opportunity. In this case, it refers to Luka and Abby's night together as well as their inability to share their true feelings afterward.
