Episode Summary

EDIT
Gallant has a rough day due to his inability to make himself heard. First, Pratt butts in on a patient of his. Then Stella Willis dies because Kayson didn't bother with thorough treatment. Weaver makes a mistake on live television while demonstrating flu shots, inadvertently sticking two reporters with the same needle. In the bathroom, Susan and Abby catch Weaver in a stall with a needle. Weaver later confesses to Susan that she's taking hormones. Carter, assuming Susan already knows, tells her about Abby's drinking problem. Abby becomes nurse manager, and argues with Carter about her drinking. Luka flirts with a patient's mom and is caught emerging from a storage closet with her.moreless

  • Gallant stands up for himself, even though he loses the patient and Abby becomes nurse-manager.

    9.3
Gallant's frequent flier, Stella is not admitted again by Kayson. She stays on a trolley in the hall and crashes. Attempts to save her fail and Kayson refuses to take any blame for his lack of action, much to Gallant's fury.

IMO Abby should run a mile from Carter after this episode. He reveals to Susan that Abby has a drink problem, having already done the same to Luka. He then gets angry with her and walks away when she asks him not too. Even the ending is not sufficient to make up for being such a rotten friend.

Luka treats a girl who it turns out has renal failure. He also treats her mother to a session in the storage cupboard, which Susan suggests to him is not entirely appropriate! As the girl's condition is confirmed he is feeling somewhat sheepish!moreless
  • Is this normal in Croatia?

    8.0
This is the first Gallant episode, I think, we had. And it is worth it. He is having hard time as he tries to help an army man who took too much medicine for malaria in order to kill himself or get high. Gallant tries to protect him but Pratt acts and he is up to psychologie. Then it gets even harder when the lady Gallant has seen so many times, crashes as cardiology did not take her in and he did not stand for her. She dies and Gallant takes it up on the doctor who did not take her in. Pratt is asked to stand in the middle and so they have a fight.

    Abby and Carter have problems.moreless

  • TRIVIA (1)

  • QUOTES (17)

    • Carter: This is how far we are gonna go if we keep hiding from each other.
      Abby: I won't hide anymore.

    • (discussing Abby being named nurse supervisor)
Abby: I was hall monitor for a day in the 5th grade and they fired me for selling passes to the other kids.
Kerry: Well, I'm sure you've matured since.
      Abby: Not that much really.

    • (Abby is removing a dead goldfish from the tank in the waiting room))
Abby: Time of death, 7:36 a.m.
      Carter: Ah. Your goldfish coded?
Abby: Yep. Third time this week. Every afternoon I restock the little pond here, and every morning it's like the Exxon Valdez came through.
Carter: You can get somebody else to do this for you.
      Abby: Well, I'm committed.
      Carter: Committed fish killer.
(she drops the fish into Carter's coffee cup)

    • Abby: Luka and UTI mom?
Susan: Yeah. Is this kind of thing normal in Croatia?
Abby: Oh, yeah. They call it alternative medicine.
Susan: (laughs) I'm not supposed to laugh. It's a patient's mother.
Abby: Where did you find them?
Susan: In the storage closet in radiology.
Abby: That's strange. Neuro's so much more cozy.
Susan: Is that what you two were like?
Abby: No, we stuck to beds mostly.
Susan: Too bad. I think you should talk to him.
      Abby: Me, forget about it.
      Susan: You know him better.
Abby: You walked in on them.
Susan: I'm not the sex police!

    • Carter: (to Gallant) Hey, Pratt wants you to hit him on the other side of his face, to even things out.

    • UTI Patient: Are you really a good nurse?
Abby: I'm technically proficient, despite certain attitude issues.

    • Kayson: (to Pratt) You still work here?
      Pratt: ...last time I checked.

    • Abby: And the moral of the story is...
Luka: Never sleep with a patient's mother.
Abby: At least not until the labs are back.

    • Abby: How does a couple burgers, shakes, and see if you get lucky sound?
Carter: I haven't had an offer that good since the eighth grade.

    • Susan: (to Luka) When you're waiting on a patient's results, it's not necessary for you to boff that patient's mother in the storage closet.

    • Luka: Her workup is not complete.
Susan: But her mother's is, so unless you have unusual stamina, there's no reason to keep her here.

    • (talking about girls' night out)
Carter: Abby said it was a good time.
Susan: Don't worry, she hasn't cheated on you since that stripper named Thor.
Carter: I can be concerned, right?
Susan: Don't be; he was wearing an American flag thong.

    • Gallant: (to Pratt, after slugging him) Don't call me Mikey!

    • Lewis: (about Weaver) Tell me she didn't forget to switch needles.
Carter: She forgot to switch needles.

    • Abby: (to Carter, about girls' night out) The usual: prank calls, pillow fights, lesbian experimentation.

    • Lewis: Thanks for getting me home. I'm so sorry about your shoes.

    • Weaver: You hit another doctor?
      Gallant: Yeah, Doctor Pratt
Weaver: Oh. Well in that case, I'll overlook it.

  • ALLUSIONS (1)

    • (about the goldfish dying)
Abby: ...Third time this week. Every afternoon I restock the little pond here, and every morning it's like the Exxon Valdez came through.
The Exxon Valdez was an oil tanker that gained infamy when on March 24, 1989 it ran aground and spilled at least 10 million gallons of crude oil into the relatively pristine waters of Alaska's Prince William Sound. It was one of the largest spills in United States history and considered one of the worst ecological disasters to date
