Goof: Carter tells Benton that his arrival at the hospital was delayed by Hurricane Phyllis. There never has been a hurricane named Phyllis. The National Hurricane Center uses a rotating list of storm names over a six year cycle, and "Phyllis" has never been on any of their lists.
Morgenstern left in Season 1 for a job in Boston, and was replaced by Dr. Swift. In this episode, Morgenstern is back, as if he never left. His return is not explained until the next episode, "Summer Run."
Doug: Nurse Hathaway, what are you doing tonight?
Carol: I thought maybe I'd rent a movie, make some popcorn.
Doug: Maybe I'll bring a pizza.
Carol: I don't remember inviting you.
Doug: No, you didn't. I invited myself.
(during a burn trauma)
Malik: Kinda smells like a barbecue in here.
Carter: Oh, God... (passes out)
Malik: Ha, ha, ha! Welcome back, Carter!
Harper: Harper Tracy.
Greene: Greene, Mark.
Harper: Actually, my first name is Harper.
Greene: You did some of your residency with Kerry Weaver?
Ross: Yeah, when we crossed paths.
Greene: Morgenstern wants me to consider her for chief.
Ross: Really?
Greene: That bad?
Ross: Did you ever see Cuckoo's Nest?
(Carter gives Ross a small idol statue)
Carter: Dr. Ross, a little taste of the islands.
Ross: Carter, you shouldn't have.
Carter: It's Wondoa. He's the god of fertility.
Carol: Just what you need, Doug.
Benton: (to Greene) I hear you hired Kerry Weaver as Chief. That's definitely a move in the right direction.
Benton: What do you know about the arteries in the neck?
Carter: Uh... there's a lot of them?
This episode marks the first appearance of Ron Eldard as Paramedic Ray "Shep" Shepard, a character that would recur throughout the season.
This episode marks the first appearance of Laura Innes as Dr. Kerry Weaver. She would guest star regularly throughout the season, and join the main cast in the Season 3 premiere, "Dr. Carter, I Presume."
Both Carol and Malik say "Welcome Back, Carter!" in this episode. This is one of several times an episode title is incorporated into the show's dialogue.
Penny Fuller (Mrs. Constantine) was nominated for an Emmy Award in the Outstanding Guest Actress category for her work in this episode.
Title: "Welcom Back, Carter"
