Do You Remember Leo Winters?
AIRED:
During the war, Leo Winters was a hero, the best diver in the Royal Navy. Now, he's a penniless nobody. But he's needed for a very difficult mission - or is he just being ruthlessly manipulated?

  • Is ageing has-been Royal Navy diver Leo Winters the right man for an especially delicate mission? Or does spy chief Roger Upton really want the wrong man?

    7.5
Given that this episode was both written and directed by Americans (the script is by "Dark Shadows" creator Art Wallace), it must be said that it captures ordinary "Britishness" pretty accurately, and the irritating, pathetic Leo Winters, well played by George A. Cooper, convincingly represents a common 1960s type - the middle-aged man who had a period of glory in World War II and absolutely couldn't revert back to post-war humdrum drabness. By being hired for "one last job", Leo seems to have escaped his misery - but it goes spectacularly wrong, and his former colleagues in Naval Intelligence may be required to murder him. So far, so grimly convincing - but then there's a wildly unconvincing happy ending. Censorship interference?moreless
