  • Can a life of duplicity become addictive, so that certain spies can never envisage any other, more normal, kind of life? And, if that's so, how dangerous do these people become?moreless

It's intriguing to learn that this went out as the third episode in the series in America - in Britain, where the show was made, it was the series opener, and the show which had begun the series in the US, "Covenant With Death", went out in the second week. (Because it was a British-American co-production, we saw the series in the UK at the same time as America did, in the autumn and winter of 1963 and in early 1964, rather than months or years later, as was common in those days.) This was a most effective opener, with Steven Hill cast as the American "control" of a female agent who is a heroine in World War II, but who, years later, becomes an out-of-control killer. He loves her, but may still murder her. Ingrid Thulin, from several of Ingmar Bergman's films, has a rare English-language role as this dangerous lady.moreless
