  • The Longhorns close out this rivalry in style.

This was one of the best college football games of the year - one of the few in 2011 I actually watched every minute of.

The Texas A&M Aggies, infamously moving from the Big 12 and away from biggest rival Texas and into the SEC to play the likes with LSU, Alabama, and Arkansas, were hosting the final game of the Lone Star Showdown until at least 2018 or 2019. Over 88,000 crazed fans crowded into Kyle Field in College Station to witness one of the greatest rivalries in college sports at its finale.

The Longhorn defense went 3-and-out on its first five possessions which led to a 13-0 Texas A&M lead in the second. However, the Horns got back into it with trickery. Jaxon Shipley, little brother of former Longhorn receiver Jordan Shipley, took a toss from Case McCoy and threw it 41 yards to Blaine Irby for a TD to cut the deficit to 13-7.

After an A&M field goal, Texas outscored the Aggies 17 to nothing in the third quarter behind a 58-yard interception return for a touchdown by Carrington Byndom; Another INT and a enormous punt return set up a 23-yard field goal by Justin Tucker, and a 1-yard run by Cody Johnson.

The Aggies scored nine consecutive in the fourth, including a 16-yard touchdown pass to Jeff Fuller. However, A&M missed a crucial two-point conversion, Texas used a 15-yard personal foul penalty and a 25+ yard run by Case McCoy to set up the biggest kick of Justin Tucker's life: a 40-yarder that sailed through the uprights and gave Texas the 27-25 win.

My message to A&M: Have fun in the SEC!moreless

The end of one of football's most intense rivalries as Texas defeated Texas A&M with a field goal at the buzzer. With all of the missed field goals this year late down the stretch this is when the Longhorns succeed (remember the Nebraska game two years ago?)

Good game though and it was actually better than the NFL game on at the same time.
