Episode Summary

EDIT
An experiment to recreate the big bang seems to be causing Eureka's finest to become dumber and dumber, including everyone involved in the experiment. When it comes to the verge of destroying Global Dynamics, the fate of the town lies in the hands of Jack Carter and the team of scientists he assembles, amongst them the newest member of the town, an anti-social genius.moreless

  • Great Episode

    10
If anyone else has seen the movie "Idiocracy" by Mike judge, you'll definitely see some similarities in this episode... like two geniuses playing Marco Polo, but they both just keep yelling "Marco" to each other... but other then just the humor value, this episode does have a couple of interesting things... such as showing how Eureka's think tank at Global gets new geniuses to add to their staff... also a glimpse into the more subdued parts of Stark and Allison's personality... I like the new character. He's kinda interesting to play as a foil to many of the other characters who tend to take their work too seriously.moreless
  • Childhood regression and good times.

    9.5
This was such a fun episode, with all the main characters regessing back to their childhood personas. I really enjoy episodes like this, when the actors really get the opportunity to play with their characters. Plus it gives the show a good shot in the arm of pure unadulterated fun. I do like the new character Zane. I hope he comes back for additional episodes. I think his character is fun-loving and mischievious and would be a terrific addition to the show. Obviously, Sheriff Carter isn't affected like most of the town is, which is puzzling, but at least there's someone there to save the day. And he does. Whew. Excellent eppy!!!moreless
  • The genius inhabitants of Eureka become a little less smart...

    8.5
Loved this episode. It was, as always, a great installment of Eureka. It was funny and it was a nice change to see the usual geniuses become "dumb" as Carter called them. Lots of amusing lines ("Uh, excuse me, are you dumb?" "Sorry Jack, I just realised you must feel like this all the time".) and the characters all became silly and playful as opposed to their usuall serious selves. Like Stark and Allison for example - at one point they were playing with remote controlled cars.

Overall a fun, very amusing episode Id highly recommend. Plus Zane was really pretty...

  • Other Way Around

    9.4
This is another one of the really best episodes of the show, in my book at least.

It was just really funny seeing what happens when things go the other way around. We see every genious in town become stupid. From Henry starting to become a slacker and my favorates seeing Alison acting like a complete ditz and Nathan a class clown, see him ask Cater to pull his finger was just hilarious.

However this episode was at the theme about inner feelings as well as the true motives and qualities hidden within. What I like was the parallel dynamic between both Carter and the new character Zane, both have two forms of heroism, hero and anti-hero. Carter has always been the most underrated person in Eureka. Sure he has average intelegence which makes him seem a bit slow on the uptake on their scientific concepts. But what I always loved about him was he always had common sense and street smarts, which made him look at things different and the ability to point out and correct what was wrong with the picture. And sometimes when you go slow you go fast.

Zane is an amazing new edition in the show and is becoming a cult hero (lets hope the title holds or he lives up to his potential). On the outside he seems like a common untrustworthy criminal, but we see on the inside that he's really a good guy he could almost be like a modern day Robin Hood when we discover in the end what he did with the money he embezeled and like most antiheroes he is borderline selfish and selfless but is no doubt selfless when needed, when he heres Eureka is in danger he saves it from aniliation. And personailty wise he's likeable, from being a smart alec giving both Carter and Jo a lot of grief, a smooth and sly wit and charm as we see him hitting on Jo, and is as smart and inventive as Macgyver as we see he always seems to make certain things out of the simplest things.

But of course we see even though the characters Henry, Nathan, and Alison might be stupid right now it has also made their other senses more acute mainly their feelings. From Henry who of course gives away a vital clue to Carter about the subplot. And Alison and Nathan's feelings for one another which I thought was really sweet.

The Brain can do wonderous things, but it is always the heart the surpass because it can do much more.moreless
  • Role reversal at its finest.

    9.3
So, another seeming scientific advancement turns out to have unforeseen side effects - most of the town loosing valuable IQ points due to a neurotransmitter suppressant ingested through BQ chicken at Café Dièm. Carter, thanks to the intervention to the newest genius recruit in town, didn't have the chicken and once more is pivotal in finding a solution to the problem.

The episode had lots of comedic moments, it was well paced and fun to watch. At the same time it shed light on the fact that having someone like Carter for sheriff is essential for a town full of geniuses though people there hardly ever seem to appreciate the fact. They still treat him like a little slow kid sometimes even though he again and again is essential in some way or another to save the day and shows a good measure of street smarts. I really think they should give him more credit sometimes.

I am looking forward to learning what develops from Henry's telling Carter about Beverly doing something to Kim.moreless

    • Jack: Let's start with a list of all the people infected. How are you feeling? You feel dumb?
      Jo: No. You?
      Zane: How could you tell?
(Jack zaps Zane with the button on his Global Dynamics bracelet, and Zane falls down.)
      Zane: Ow, aww!

    • (About the danger surrounding the currently unsupervised experiment at Global Dynamics.)
Jack: Look, don't worry about it, all right? We'll fix it. (Jo gives a look) What? We always fix it!
Jo: We don't always fix it. Henry does it sometimes, or Stark, or Allison. I'm just saying we usually have smart people to lean on.
Jack: Hey, I'm smart… (defensive) I'm plenty smart!
      Jo: I mean science-smart. Don't get snappy!

    • (Discussing ways to reinforce the shield around the Chaotic-Inflation Device.)
Carter: How about another field around the field? Double it or reinforce it with something?
      Allison: Oh, duct tape.
Carter: (ironically) Yeah, like duct tape.

    • Jo: Ok, what do you mean they're stupid?
Carter: I mean stupid. Like... like... (acts "stupid") stupid. Stupid!
Jo: Carter, you can't catch stupid!
Zane: This may be my favorite conversation of all time.

    • (In the cafe, after the affected scientists have been cured)
Jack: (to Allison) So, all the facts of the world at your fingertips again?
Allison: Hen oida hoti ouden oida. (Translation from Greek: I know one thing, that I know nothing.)
Jack: Either that's very profound, or you're badly brain damaged.

    • (Jack is sitting in the kitchen eating pork rinds)
S.A.R.A.H.: Are you sure you want to do that, Jack?
Jack: I didn't have any lunch!
S.A.R.A.H.: Pork rinds have over 30 grams of sodium per serving.
Jack: All right, new rule: No one's allowed to say anything about what I eat.
      S.A.R.A.H.: Whatever you say, Jack.
Jack: I can hear you judging.

    • Zane: Obsession with firearms can be a sign of unfulfilled sexual appetite. I'm not saying that's you, but if it is, I'm at your service.
(Jo points a large gun at Zane)
      Zane: Whoa, whoa, whoa!
Carter: Jo, Jo, Jo! Don't shoot the prisoner. Don't.
Jo: How about I just wing him?

    • (Carter and Dr. Glenn are organizing the still-intelligent scientists in an attempt to fix the Big Bang device and whatever is affecting the rest of the scientists.)
Carter: Any of you with a medical background, you go with Dr. Glenn. The rest of you...um...start learning Physics.
