Despite it being the third time that London had hosted the Eurovision Contest, this was the first time that it was coming off their victory in the previous tournament, as on the other two occassions the winning nation had declined the offer to host, choosing to pass those honours over to the United Kingdom. All seventeen competitors from the 1967 Contest competed in this contest, while Denmark still decided not to attend.
On an interesting note this was the first Eurovision Contest to be broadcast in colour. It was shown in colour in seven European nations, however this broadcast was only an encore presentation the following day. The live broadcast remained in black and white for all countries.moreless
