  • I liked it!

    9.5
Louis saves the life of a popular student. He then ditches his old friends, Tawny and Twitty, to hang out with his new ones. But he learns that they're not really his friends. They just tolerated him for a while. Ren tries to make some changes in the cafeteria, but Larry keeps ruining everything. She is sad and wants to give up. Larry realizes that he was mean and apologizes and even helps her out.

This was a great episode! I like how Larry was nice to Ren. Tawny and Twitty are really good friends! Louis's jokes weren't that funny though. This episode gets a 9.5!moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (6)

    • Twitty says to Tawny that he has basketball practice later, one of the few times that it's ever mentioned that he belongs to that team.

    • Larry Beale is called by his full name: Lawrence Anthony Beale. Anthony is also the middle name of Louis.

    • Tawny gives Twitty a flower while they watch Louis with his "new friends", but when Tawny and Twitty leave, there is no flower.

    • When Louis is at his locker talking to Blake and Ivan (when all the stuff falls out of it), the big fake bills that line the inside of the locker door are torn in one shot, then are not in the next.

    • In the luchroom, Charlotte says she's "developed quite a taste for this meatloaf," but she appears to be eating peas and carrots.

    • The choker that Tawny is wearing around her neck while she's laying on the railroad tracks disappears when she's untied and helped to her feet.

  • QUOTES (7)

  • NOTES (0)

  • ALLUSIONS (11)

    • While Louis is doing his imitation of Marlon Brando in the movie The Godfather (1972), an imitation of that movie's music plays in the background.

    • Louis in the Middle is an allusion to the T.V Show Malcolm in the Middle.

    • Tawny: My mother had a patient like this once. 76-year-old man woke up one morning and told his wife he only wanted to be called Freak Nasty.

Freak Nasty is the name of a rapper whose had one big hit in 1997 with "Da Dip."

    • Louis: Tawny, go to the safety poster, you go boil some water!

"Go boil some water!" is an instruction usually given when a woman is going into labor. Louis is apparently a little mixed-up here, as boiling water won't help a choking victim very much!

    • Louis: I'm a Dudley Do-Right!

Dudley Do-Right was a cartoon character on the 1960's cartoon show Rocky and His Friends (aka Rocky and Bullwinkle). He was a Canadian Mountie who was comically straight-lace, moral and incorruptable. The cartoons also briefly aired under the name The Dudley Do-Right Show in 1969. A live action Dudley Do-Right movie was made in 1999, starring Brendan Fraser in the title role.

    • Eileen Stevens: You don't normally watch "The Old and the Beautiful.

This is a goof on the name of the CBS-TV soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful (1987-present).

    • Blake: Your fifteen minutes of fame are over.

Andy Warhol (1928-1997), photographer, pop artist and professional celebrity, is widely quoted as having said, "In the future, everyone will be famous for fifteen minutes."

    • Tawny: We're worried you've become a pod person.

"Pod people" were in the film Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956; remade 1978). In these movies, an alien force was growing duplicates of human beings in plant-like pods. When the duplicates were finished, they took the place of the real people. They looked the same, but were just shells of the former men and women, without any will of their own.

    • Louis: Or you can call me Austin. That's gag-alicious, bay-bee!

Louis is of course doing his imitation of Austin Powers, the leftover 1960's superspy who was created by actor/comedian Mike Myers. Two very popular Austin Powers films were released in 1997 and 1999, with a third planned for 2002.

    • Blake: Then I did this camera commercial with Aggasi...

Blake is talking about Andre Agassi, one of the top professional tennis player since the 1980's, who did make a camera commercial for Canon. Agassi is also the former husband of actress Brooke Shields.

    • Louis: I made her an offer she couldn't refuse.

Louis: I coulda been a contender!

      Louis: Stella!

Louis does a series of imitations of Marlon Brando's best-known movie roles: as Don Corleone in The Godfather (1972), Terry Malloy in On the Waterfront (1954), and Stanley Kowalski in A Streetcar Named Desire (1951). Later Louis puts an orange peel in his mouth like Brando did in The Godfather when he was playing with his onscreen grandson.
