Movie Madness
AIRED:
Louis plans to make an entry in a local young people's film festival. He recruits Tawny and Twitty for his cast and Tom for his crew and they begin making his extremely low-budget space alien love story. Louis proves to be a fanatical and dictatorial film director, and after Tawny almost gets hurt his cast and crew quit. Louis finishes the film alone and shows "Three Eyes Wide Shut" at the film festival where it doesn't go as planned for him. Elsewhere Ren is ready to tell Bobby Deaver that she's interested in him. Ren practices her lines she's going to use on Bobby and then writes them out. Ruby mistakenly gives the note to Bobby, but it turns out that dorky Ivan is the one who received it.moreless

    Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

    FILTER BY TYPE

    • TRIVIA (3)

    • QUOTES (6)

    • NOTES (3)

      • This marks the first episode to only feature Louis and Ren from the main title, which will happen many times after this.

      • A few outtakes are shown in this episode's epilog, the first time that's been done in this series. During these, Tom pronounces his character's last name "Gribloski."

      • First appearance of Brandon Davis as Bobby Deaver. When Bobby first is seen by Ren in this episode, the same "love theme" that was used in the episode "Battle of the Bands" (when Ren was crushing on the Jason character) is heard. It will be used again in future episodes.

    • ALLUSIONS (4)

      • At the beginning of his movie, Louis is seen dressed as a lion and roaring, this is an allusion to Leo the Lion, the MGM mascot who is seen roaring before the start of every MGM film.

      • Tom: (with accent) I'm gonna make like-a Tom and a-cruise.

Tom is referring to Tom Cruise, one of the most famous actors in the world. He has appeared in many movies like Top Gun, Mission: Impossible and Eyes Wide Shut. Louis is making a movie called "Three Eyes Wide Shut," a goof on the title of the Cruise movie.

      • Twitty: Can we just shoot this? I'm ready for my close-up, OK?

Twitty quotes a famous line spoken by Gloria Swanson as Norma Desmond in the classic Hollywood film Sunset Boulevard (1950). ("All right, Mr. DeMille, I'm ready for my close-up.")

      • Louis: You look like the Wolf Man!

The "Wolf Man" is the Hollywood version of the werewolf, who according to superstition and legend, is a man who is afflicted with an ancient curse that turns him into a half-man, half-animal creature every time there is a full moon. The Wolf Man appeared in a film version as early as 1915, but the best-known portrayal is by Lon Chaney, Jr. in The Wolf Man (1941).
