  • One of the best.

This episode is one of the best of all-time. Louis is so funny in it, Donnie is very funny as well, actually everyone is funny in this episode. Everything was perfect in this one. The plot was a really good one as well. I just couldn't stop laughing when Donnie stood up at the dinner table and walked out because he was mad at Louis. This definately is the must see episode of must see episodes. It's just so great, season 1 truly is the best of the three, that or it is just a three way tie between the three.moreless
  • My favorite episode!

This was the best episode of Even Stevens. Louis thinks Ren is acting strange, so Louis follows her one day to a karokee restaurant where he catches her in the act. Meanwhile, Donnie gets so mathimatical advice from a college student.

This ep is from start to finish funny! The script was terrific! The acting from the cast is so good! Louis did a fantastic job for this one, no one else could have done a better job! As I wrap-up this review let me leave you with some of the lines from this great ep.

It's beady little eyes followed me everywhere; Louis is a big nerd he is the biggest nerd; Coming to the stage now, Isis; So many jokes so little time; Look I'm salting myself; Look that's a wound, a wound!moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • The voice of one of the teachers talking to Louis is only heard in pitches and tones, the way the teachers spoke to Charlie Brown and the others on the Peanuts cartoons.

    • They mixed up the days. Ren is wearing red when she yells at Louis. Louis goes home after school and talks to his mom about what they are going to eat that night. He says that they should eat at Tokyo Rick's. The next day, Loius is still in the same outfit but Ren's outfit is blue and she apologizes. They eat dinner at Tokyo Rick's that night. Weren't they supposed to go yesterday?

  • QUOTES (4)

    • Louis: Little miss wierd has been running around the house all day, and it's pay back time!
Twitty: (singing) It's pay back time, it's pay back time!
Louis: Look over here, I'm gonna show you somethin'.
Twitty: (singing still) I'm gonna show ya somethin', I'm gonna show yaaa!
Louis: Get out, get out of my house!
Twitty: (still singing) Get ... out of Louis's house!
      Louis: Louis is cool!
Twitty: (again singing) Louis is a big nerd, he is the biggest nerd!

    • Russell: May I use your facilities?
Donnie: I don't think we have any of those.

    • Louis: Who's the kid?
Donnie: Um, Russell, he's...he's my, my trig tutor.
Louis: (whispers) Russell the trig tutor.
Russell: Please to make your acquaintance.
Louis: So many jokes, so little time.

    • Twitty: Well, she's a girl and girls do weird things. Hey, that's a great song title! (Sings) Girls ... do ... weird ... things!

  • NOTES (3)

    • The girl that entered the french classroom with the note for Ren Stevens was contest winner Nichole LeBrun-Heuvel. She had won a contest through Disney Channel and traveled to California to go behind the scenes and have a walk on role.

    • Margo Harshman (Tawny) is listed in the opening credits but she does not appear in this episode.
Other characters mentioned but not seen: Coach Tugnut; Javier, a member of the band Louis "conducts;" Russell's mom, who is heard saying "No sugar!" as she drives away from the Stevens' house.

    • Christy Romano (Ren) sings "Dancing Queen," the international #1 hit for Abba from 1976. Louis also "leads" the school band in an arrangement of the song. Donna Pescow and Tom Virtue (Eileen and Steve Stevens) sing, not too well, "I've Got the Music in Me," a hit for Kiki Dee in 1974.

  • ALLUSIONS (3)

    • The episode title "Secrets and Spies" is an allusion to the 1996 Oscar-nominated film, Secrets & Lies.

    • Steve Stevens: Remember during the playoffs when I went to the Kings game with my body painted in the team colors and ran around waving my giant foam finger?

We assume Mr. Stevens is talking about the Sacramento Kings of the National Basketball Association. Their colors are purple, black and silver.

    • Steve Stevens: Seems like only yesterday Juice Newton was playin' with the Queen of Hearts--and so was I.

Steve Stevens is reminiscing about the courtship of his wife at a long-gone roller disco. "Queen of Hearts" was a hit record for singer Juice Newton in 1981, though it is more of a country-pop song than a disco record.
