AIRED:
Louis finds a penny on the school grounds. As he bends over to pick it up, a scaffolding with workmen on it tumbles to the ground around him, but it misses him. An uncanny lucky streak begins for Louis. Meanwhile Ren is worried about Ruby's obsession with the British pop trio BBMak, as is Ruby's friend Nelson. After Ruby stays up all night listening to the radio trying to win a contest with the prize of attending BBMak's recording session in Sacramento, Ren and Nelson decide to stage an intervention for her. Louis and Twitty firmly believe in the power of the penny. Tawny is skeptical until Louis casually calls up the radio station and wins the BBMak contest. Louis takes them plus Ruby and Ren with him to the recording session.moreless

    Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

    FILTER BY TYPE

    • TRIVIA (7)

      • In a few shots of Ruby's room you can see Big Bunny: A stuffed animal used in the Disney movie Honey I Blew Up the Kid.

      • Louis' lucky penny is a 2001 Denver-minted Lincoln-head cent.

      • At the end, when they're singing "Sacramento Girl", Ruby's singing, but she's not in the band.

      • Twitty hands his tape to BBmak and tells them he has his own band called the Alan Twitty Project. However, when all of them are in the band together (Louis, Ren, Twitty, Tawny, Tom, and all the others) it was called the Twitty Stevens Connection.

      • This episode was obviously aired out of production order since Nelson appeared in this episode. He didn't come back to town until the episode "Thin Ice." Also Ms. Lovelson is mentioned, though she doesn't appear onscreen until later in the season, and Ren has her braces off, which weren't removed until the next episode, "Shutterbugged," was broadcast.

      • The tambourine BB Mak gives Louis to play is a rather cheap-loking all-metal model that looks more like a children's plaything rather than a professional instrument which one would expect to see at a session for successful recording artists.

      • When the scene with Ruby and Louis passing each other in the doorway of Louis' house is replayed later in the episode, it shows Louis winking at her and Ruby turning around to look back at him, things neither of them did the first time the scene was shown.

    • QUOTES (8)

      • Twitty: (after "The Sacremento Girl" video) Take that BB Mak!

      • Twitty-Stevens Connection: (singing and playing song) Yeah! My Sacramento Girl! She screams "Yeah!" Follows me around at the mall, won't stop her starin' in study hall yeah! My Sacramento Girl! She screams "Yeah!" My Sacramento Girl, she's Sacramento Girl yeah! My Sacramento Girl! She screams "Yeah!" Before that girl I had it made, now she's grown tired of the whole love game yeah! My Sacramento Girl! She screams "Yeah!" Girl you go and set me free!!

      • Ren: (looking at Christian) Wow, he's gorgeous!
Ruby: (looking at Louis) I know.
        Ren: Eww, no! Eww!

      • Ren: (to Ruby and Tawny) I can't believe it, you guys are actually fighting over Louis! Is this some bizarre cosmic joke?

      • Louis: Abe, is it wrong for a man to love a man on the penny?

      • Ren: (to Ruby) When did you realize you had a crush on...I can't even say it!

      • Ruby: Ren, I haven't slept. I haven't eaten. Do you think I really want to chat?

      • Ren: You know, Ruby, you still have your headphones on.
        Ruby: It's called multi-tasking!
