  • TRIVIA (4)

    • In his excitement upon summiting, Rod forgets that he must wear his goggles to protect his eyes. Unprotected for twenty minutes, he has perhaps eight hours before his eyesight begins to be dangerously impaired. Snow blindness usually takes about 48 hours to heal, but in serious cases, blindness can be permanent.

    • His climb funded by Motorola, Rod makes the first cell phone call from the peak of Mt Everest. He taped the cell phone battery to his chest to keep it from freezing.

    • Russell has a live feed to the Sherpacams rom the Discovery Channel's live feed for the first time during a summit attempt, giving him the opportunity to assess his climbers more clearly than ever before.

    • Tim breaks several bones in his right hand early into his final push for the summit, but doesn't tell Russell of his injury for fear that he'd be told to turn around.
