    Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

    FILTER BY TYPE

    • TRIVIA (1)

      • The temperatures up on the mountain are well below freezing, but on a sunny day the climbers are actually tortured by heat in their down climbing suits. This also contributes to the climbers becoming dangerously dehydrated.

    • QUOTES (3)

      • David: If Tim comes onthe mountain and goes on the summit attempt with us, and we've got all this evidence Tim doesn't get out of bed for us, doesn't do this, doesn't do that, enjoys being last- then we get to Camp 4 on our summit bid, and suddenly there's Tim lying there, looking up at me going, 'Help me, help me', who's problem is it? Personally, I'd like to step over and carry on and do my job.

      • David: (on his reasons for trying to do a double traverse) What I'm trying to do is trying to demonstrate to other abused children, because I was abused as a child as well, that things are possible, and that your life doesn't come to a grinding halt when someone decides to try and ruin it for you.

      • Betsy: (after failing to reach Camp 2, ruining her chance to summit) You have no idea how beautiful my little dog's face is, no idea how beautiful my life is. I appreciate my life, I'm sorry I took it for granted. There's no place like home, oh my God!

    • NOTES (1)

    • ALLUSIONS (2)

      • Betsy: (on the double traverse attempt) David's like 007, so I have no, no doubt in my mind he was going to do what he set out to do.

"007" is the codename of the fictional British super-spy, internationally known through over a dozen movies and books by Ian Fleming.

      • Betsy: (after failing to reach Camp 2) There's no place like home.
This is a quote of the famous line from movie The Wizard of Oz. The movie's main character Dorothy, like Betsy, realizes after her adventures that she has taken her life for granted, and desperately wants to return to her everyday life.
