Dr. Brown faces one of the toughest moral decisions of his career when a distraught pregnant teenager (guest star Kate Mara) and her father (guest star Kevin Tighe) come to him for guidance about terminating her pregnancy. Meanwhile, Ephram is humiliated in front of the entire school when his date for the Spring Formal ditches him at the dance to make-out with her boyfriend. Lastly, Amy and Colin (Mike Erwin) have a huge fight when she chooses to console Ephram against Colin's wishes.moreless

I still remember my first viewing of this episode. I was 16, and even then, it blew me away. It's one of my inspirations for what I want to do in life: write. Someday, when I'm done with college, I'd like to write my own "Episode 20." :-)

For now, while I'm still learning, I'll have to settle for my Everwood DVD's. This is one of the greatest shows of all time, and "Episode 20" is the prime example of such a fact.

Kate Mara is AMAZING as the girl who decides to have an abortion. She doesn't want to, though; she feels she has to. What other choice does she have (she thinks)?

When she leaves the examination room, she looks horrible. Tears in her eyes, shaking, she walks out of the office with Edna, who will take her home. Home: where her father is. It's all his fault, isn't it? Did he force her to get the abortion? Or did the town's perception of teen pregnancy force her?

These are all interesting things to think about. They are the epitomized aspects of a small town. :-)moreless
