Episode Summary

After his wife is killed in a car accident, Dr. Andrew Brown (Treat Williams) moves his 15-year-old son, Ephram (Gregory Smith), and 9-year-old daughter, Delia (Vivien Cardone), to the idyllic environs of Everwood to make a new start. In the opener, the relocation sparks harsh words and hurt feelings between the emotionally distant father and his neglected son, despite Andrew's attempts to reconnect with the teen. • A perfect introduction to a classic dramatic series.

Everwood is a hidden gem. I myself did not pay much attention when it showed on TV. I don't think all the stuff portrayed in the show resonated much with me...until now. After experiencing loss in my own life, I think I was better able to understand the characters' motives in this story: a father and husband who wished to honor his wife's last wishes and a son who was trying to find his place in the world after the death of a parent (his mother).

The pilot of Everwood is a perfect intro episode for anyone who wants to get into the show. It has a variety of emotions: sadness, joy, uncertainty, and even anger. The young Ephram is the angry one in particular because of a father (Dr. Andrew Brown) who cared very little about his family when his wife was alive. It took her death, Brown's decision to quit being a surgeon and a move to the middle of nowhere in Colorado for issues to be dealt with.

The range of characters is impressive. We have Andy Brown (Treat Williams) for the adults, Ephram (Gregory Smith) for the teenagers, sister Delia (Vivien Cardone) for the young kids, and even grandmother Edna Harper (Debra Mooney) for the older folks. But in truth, one can get drawn in by any if not all of these characters. The actors did extremely well portraying distinct people who are definitely not perfect. And I wouldn't have it any other way.

The pilot is great beginning to a classic, wonderful drama series. You'll quickly be drawn in by the events in these people's lives until the explosive, emotional season finale.moreless

This pilot episode as one of the best episodes of this show that i have ever seen. When I first started watching this show it was in the third season so i hadn\'t seen how the show started until this past sept.\'06. I love this episode! I wish this show was still on. It was kind of nerve-wracking at some points in the episode. It was sad at the beginning where they show when their mother dies, kind of like the first episode of Summerland (great show). If any of you like shows like this Summerland is kind of like it.moreless

I didnt watch this show when it first came out, but my mom kept telling me it was a good show, but i didnt want to start watching it in the middle of the series. When i heard that ABC Family was going to start showing the show from the beginning i decided to give it a try, and boy am i glad i did. This episode was great. The characters are well developed, and i think the story line was going to be really good. I can really relate with ephram b/c me and my father dont get along that well. I am def. going to continue watching this show.moreless

  • The first ever Everwood, it’s so great!

It's a little odd watching it because there was a different theme song at the beginning, plus the pilot was shot in a different location then the rest of the series. But this is a great introduction to the characters that soon become loved by many. It's always scary to see Andy without a beard in the NY scenes. Plus this is when we see Ephram with his odd hair color. But this episode also serves for information about the loose strings that are tied in the series finale. Overall Everwood had a great start and an even better finish.moreless
