Delia's teacher this year is Mr. Perkins.
Will's full name is Willingham Cleveland.
As for the origin of the title, in the 1980s, "The Dreaded 'L' Word" meant liberal. In the 1990s, it referred to love. Currently it refers to lesbianism.
(Just for the fun of it, Bright starts rapping in the back of a travelling car)
Will: Who are you again?
Bright: Erm, I'm from, I'm Bright.
Will: Doubt that, if I'd known we were bringing pets I would have brought Oscar.
Ephram: Do you think we can just maybe rewind the last couple days? Just go back completely?
Madison: I don't think it works that way, Ephram.
Ephram: Right, the toothpaste, tube. Forget it. (long pause) Do you think we could maybe just pretend? For now, at least?
Madison: Yeah, I guess we could do that.
Ephram: Okay.
Madison: I haven't even asked about your concert... Well, how was it? You killed, didn't you?
Ephram: There was definitely some dying involved. I sorta didn't play.
Madison: What happened? Did you get sick or something?
Ephram: No, it wasn't so much sick as it was the, the all-night drive from Boulder back to your house and back again. Kinda wrecked me.
Ephram: I gotta go see her.
Bright: No, Bro, this whole whipped lapdog thing is not a good idea, man. Besides, your dad is not going to let you use the car.
Ephram: Who do you think drove the last hour?
Bright: What about this reception, man? We're supposed to pick up some girls, you know. I'm a drummer, remember?
Ephram: Cover for me.
Bright: You can't put the toothpaste back in the tube, dude.
Madison: (To Ephram) I gotta go get the iron.
(Ephram kisses Madison)
Ephram: I love you.
(Pause. Madison gives Ephram a gentle, "motherly" kiss)
Madison: I gotta go get the iron.
Ephram: It's amazing, I, I didn't think things could get any better, or, or I could like her any more, but I do. This is what you were warning me about, huh? You knew I was gonna feel this way.
Bright: Well, I don't think I used the word "feel." I might of used the word "feel up." That's totally different.
Narrator Irv: Sometimes it's easier to pretend that things are okay, rather than face a difficult truth. So we go through the motions, the rituals of everyday life. We hope the comfortable rhythms of familiarity will hold off the inevitable just a little longer; return things to normal, anything to buy us more time. Playing pretend, make believe, it might be the one thing we never outgrow.
Narrator Irv: The speed and direction of our path through life are pretty good measures of our age. We race headlong through childhood, never looking back; wanting it to end as quickly as possible. As we get older, we occasionally slow down long enough to look around and savor certain moments: It's a sure sign of growing up. It's only in our twilight years, when our pace is slowed and the long race is nearing the end that we spend most of our time looking backwards, and we wonder why we were ever in such a hurry.
Ephram: When they finally kick Bright out of Victoria's Secret, he'll never find us.
Tommy: I picked up a couple extra shifts at the drugstore; the real drugstore, not the one I ran out of my trunk.
Andy: (about Ephram's playing) Wait a minute, this is about a girl?
Will: It's always about a girl.
Amy: You know what; maybe this is the relationship I shouldn't waste my time on.
Laynie: Maybe you're right.
Linda: I'm not very natural at this parenting thing, Nina. I don't know how you and Andy make it look so easy.
Nina: I'm sorry; did you see the cast on Sam's arm? And a natural parent, Andy's not. You want to know how many times he's come through that door asking for help?
Amy: Look Tommy, I want to be there for you and I want to help you, but I can't save you.
Laynie: I know it doesn't feel like it right now, but giving up Tommy might be a good tradeoff.
Amy: I don't know what I'd do without you.
Laynie: That's me, I'm all about the silver lining.
Madison: You're gonna kick ass at your thing, the bands gonna kick ass at our thing and then we'll get together and tell each other about it later.
Ephram: Well, I'm not actually in the festival. It's a competition afterwards that Will signed me up for. Don't congratulate me 'til I win, which naturally, I will.
Will: You can leave the girl for one weekend; it won't kill you.
Ephram: Well who says this is about a girl?
Will: You're about as subtle as a baboon's ass. The only other thing that affects a man's playing like that is heartbreak. And that idiotic grin you're wearing on your face, that ain't it.
(Linda finishes Delia's project for her)
Delia: You made me a cheater!
Episode Music:
Butthole Surfers - The Shame of Life.
John Beasley (Irv Harper) does not appear in this episode, although his narration is heard.
Debra Mooney (Edna Harper) does not appear in this episode.
James Earl Jones received an Emmy nomination for his role as Will Cleveland.
Special guest-star James Earl Jones reprises his role and makes his second guest appearance on Everwood after a stint earlier in the season.
Even though credited, Tom Amandes (Harold Abbott) does not appear in this episode.
The title of this episode is highly probably a take on the Showtime series called The L Word, about a group of lesbian friends.
Ephram: We're going to Boulder, not Oz.
Ephram was referring to Dorothy and her friends who journeyed to the land of Oz in the movie The Wizard of Oz.
Will Cleveland: You're about as subtle as a baboon's ass.
Appropriate, as James Earl Jones played Simba's proud father in Disney's The Lion King, and Mustapha's good friend was... well... a none-too-subtle old baboon named Rafiki.
Ephram: Is this some weird version of Punk'd.
Punk'd is a show on MTV where a celeberty gets freaked out by something that has been planed.
