Who was the Episode MVP ?

  • This is a hilarious episode

Chris got picked to play in the school basketball team from the coach he saw him throw a paper in to a trashcan in the school hall and from that shot he made him the main player in the team with out seeing him play with the ball, after Chris joined the team all the school change the way they treated him and they all started to like him and the girls started to like him too, after he went back home he went to his brother drew to teach him some moves in the game and like usual he ignored him and made fun of him, so Chris played the game for the 1st time with no clue how to play and for one week from the start of the team to the loser of the school.moreless
  • Chris is picked for basketball... and he didnt want to or actually try out

This episode is very good and does a twist on normal shows' "great player that wins the game" character and turns it into a much more entertaining watch, with a lot of truths such as the stereotypes that "blacks are good at basketball" and certainly disproves this theory.

Some scenes I really enjoy are the clips of Chris playing sports, getting hit by basketballs, footballs... like a fool, he even tried bowling! I also like that the narration said that Chris' father was always disappointed that Chris was no good at sport but he'd never say it and he does say it and the teacher changing the marks depending on whether Chris is on the team.

This is the best episode yet with many jokes.moreless
  • Hilarious! This episode was so fresh and funny, I am dropping ALIAS (which I've watched since the beginning) to watch it! Loved it!

What a funny show! I missed the pilot, but decided to tune in for this episode, and boy am I ever glad I did! It was so fresh and funny. I just love how they aren't afraid to make fun of every stereotype possible. The coach of the school's basketball team sees Chris make a basket (throwing away a crumpled piece of paper into the trash can), and just assumes that he must be an all star since he's black. Ha! It's daring to go where most sitcoms don't ever even imagine. Can't wait for more. The kid playing Chris is hilarious! I hope this show succeeds, because it's great!moreless
  • How do you make fun of reality without coming across slanted and racist? Just ask Chris Rock and company. This show is really about family. While this show just so happens to be about African Americans, anyone should be able to recognize the reality of ramoreless

The slur that "He can play basketball just because he's black" is very offensive. This episode takes the absurdity of that assumption and shows it for what it is. However, instead of showing that the hero was great regardless of his basketball skills, this episode shows the hero is hated and shunned. This much reality in a sitcom would normally not be a good thing. However, the deft handling and the comedic turn enable this show to actually get a point across at the same time it is being entertaining.

There is a side story here about a renter who turns out as a criminal. It is a little over the top and distracts from the main theme. The focus here needs to stay on Chris. He is so funny.moreless
